Bolt securing Fan Extension

Recommended Posts

Same size as my Stag and that gets set at 120 lbs ft. ( I think 5/8 UNF threads).

It isn't shown on the 4 cylinder TRs either and I set them at 120 also when I rebuild one. Quite common to find front pulleys ruined where the woodruff key has "chavelled" another slot maybe 4 or 5mm wide alongside the original in the pulley..., not on mine they don't.

NO LOCTITE ! you might want to get it off again...sometime.

Mick’s advice for a bit higher torque makes sense. You then compress the pully flange harder on the sleeve and crack shaft boss, so there is less risk of relative movement. Once the bolt is not fully tight, the key will be “attacked”.

I installed mine first without the pulley to make sure in went in easily, after using a  tap in the hole to clean all debris; if you don’t, you may think you secure the pulley but you are not.

To help owners who don't have an engineering background the majority of bolts and fastenings on Triumph offerings will be Grade 5, and on a 5/8th UNF thread dog bolt that's good for 150 lbs ft Torque !  I feel a bit of a wimp only using 120 big ones !
