What Motorbike(s) do you have in your garage?

The SL125 is also getting quite rare these days. You need to get one in the garage as soon as possible!

It was quite difficult getting some parts for the XL restoration ,when I bought the bike it didn’t have an engine and I thought it would be quite easy to pick one up,but no such luck, after a long search I managed to pick up a rolling chassis with a engine I had to completely strip it and rebuild it.

The first picture is when  I collected the bike the other is after I striped the bike down, before I had parts sand blasted & frame etc powder coated.

I must admit I farmed out the paint work to a guy who has done work for me before,& can do a far better job than me!
Cheers Steve.

It just goes to show what can be done with a pile of bits, plus bikes take up so much less space than a TR and you can fit more into the same space.

Yes, I've been keeping an eye on eBay etc and strong money is being asked for restored or project SL125s - the chance of a finding a UK one is slim.

Cheers, Andrew

Love the xl 250

i have an xl185 in the back of the shed.

Found couple of pictures from a few years ago of my little 185.

I have always had bikes and whilst this is in the shed I can continue to say that.

But I passed my test on a BSA C15

had a Ducati 748s on road and track. And the big adventure bikes as well as the usual Japanese bikes like the bandit.

But for fun this is great.

Oh, you have been out with your Honda at the swiss alps?

Just the Derbyshire hills.

1/2 hour from home.

I took my BMW GS to the alps. Brother lives near Zurich.

.

A couple of guys contacted me on Friday re. my Norton for sale.  Oddly both already have two other Commandos but like what I've done with this one. The one from Cardiff particularly likes the fastback style, where the other from Wiltshire is very keen on the pannier arrangement ..so he and his wife can use the bike touring.  He's said he'd like to come up on Thursday to have a look,  so in anticipation I thought I better start polishing ..this afternoon..

I lifted off the panniers and seat for better access and started with the alloy rear wheel and, very slowly it seems, am moving forward down one side..  Jeez it takes some finger work !  ..but yes I can see an improvement.

..a few more hours of jobs this afternoon

I removed the front mudguard, which is in stainless, to dress out a few minor dings in its top face.  I have no idea when or how they happened but sometime over the past seven years these things appeared..  I was surprised how easy the metal was to rework though, and pleased with the results.  No point in taking a photo because there's now next to nothing to be seen    :P

I moved on to cleaning the alloy front wheel. . .

Biggest problem I had was of course getting my fat fingers inbetween the spokes and into the centre hub to waggle a cloth and polish it.   But again it came up nice and shiny.  Likewise the alloy fork lowers and the brake caliper.  I haven't waxed them yet so this photo is after a quick wipe down with a rather filthy black cloth.  Still it conveys the general impression.  I'd say - not too bad for a 1973 bike.

The chap whose coming up from Wiltshire on Thursday phoned to say he's still planning to come, but now it's pending his being able to hire a car and also skive off work.  His own car is poorly and so in for repair and won't be ready this week.

More wagging my finger at the bike tomorrow afternoon.

Pete.

Great collection of off road bikes Chris - took me back to my enduro (Yamaha DT250) and motocross (Suzuki RM370) days in the mid-70's and early 80's, sadly not too many photos left but dug these out:

Keep the bikes, stories and photos coming.

Fantastic pictures my friend, I knew you were as mad as I was/am.

I've got no pictures from the past unfortunalty, as you know, I've lost this kind of souvenirs because of a water and mud flood in 2012.

Nice topic George Andrew, it's the kind of idea who bring me back to this forum, even if, as a non TRR member, I can't get access to some "chapters".
