Rodbr
What is concensus about the finish on original Tenax Soft top fasteners? I don't particularly like chrome finish as it looks too bright. What is the best way to clean up originals? I have fingers like pork sausages so holding them is a bit difficult. I was think of mounting a Tenax pin to a piece of alloy plate and polishing each one in turn after a clean in the ultrasonic bath. They have a sort of flat nickel finish at present and I could live with the weathered look on original parts but do want to destroy these rare items. Baring in mind I need approximately 40 done a time consuming process. Any thoughts? Rgds Rod
2long
I was wondering about ultrasonic cleaner followed by buffing? Cheers Dan
Rodbr
Hi Dan, I was thinking first one to remove any road dirt particles and after to remove any remaining polish. I use Belgom which is a very fine polish and leaves a wax coating show finish. I will drop a mail about housing later today. br rod
roger murray-evans
Rod My belief is that they are nickel plated. Those that I have (and nowhere near enough of them!) I've had replated in nickel and they look right.Quite a few were non functioning when I got the car but 95% of those responded to a long soak in WD40 in a sealed zip bag before committing to the platers. Although I very much sympathise with trying to get the original finish back to a presentable state, (Solvol and a rag I'm afraid) unless the end result is very good, they will always stick out like a sore thumb on a new tonneaux cover/hood.On an aged cover, they will, of course look, right whatever state they're in!
