Stub Axels

Recommended Posts

evening.....

putting my front suspension back together and one of the stub axles was damaged (threads)... got a new one from RB and tonight started fitting the hubs back on.

I'm using the old bearing as i had only changed these a month before deciding to start my restoration... and they don't fit on the new stub axle...????

tried the bearings on the damaged stub and they fit ok...!

Are there different versions of Stub axle for the TR6..? of have got a duff new part..?

cheers

Nick--

Pretty sure I've read another similar account of this on a forum recently.  I'll have to try to track it down, but I believe the vendor finally acknowledged the spindles were a few thou oversized.

Haha that’s me!

In my case I’d opted for new hubs with bigger bearings and beefier axles. One of which was oversize, currently waiting Mr Moss to get me a new one!

Needles to say I will mike it up first before installing it!

There have been several cases of this from that supplier, I have just bought some from TR Shop and they are a perfect fit.

Strangely, when I fitted an anti- knock off kit and new Timken bearings some years ago I found that the ID of the inner bearings was just too small to pass over the existing stub axles, I had to resort to wet and dry to remove probably only a few fractions of a thou to get the bearings to fit.
