Chassis strengthening

Recommended Posts

Rob

Attached are some photos of my take on fitting the strengthening plates to my 4A with additional fillets I put in because it seemed logical - wherever possible I tried to support the original plates with additional welding to adjacent structures etc and where there weren't any immediately adjacent, I made up filler peices in 3mm plate and welded in.

I did the side you can see ( Nearside) whilst having a full dummy suspension set up on the other side to ensure everything would fit - be especially careful on the very front plate as you need to make sure this won't foul the bumper support bracket when its fitted - I forgot about this originally.

I haven't dressed and cleaned these welds yet so apologies if they look a bit messy but they are strong - I always bevel the edge to be welded to get max penetration of the joint.

Although you can't quite see it,  I also boxed in the front body/radiator support because these always strike me as being a bit flimsy

Hope this helps

One final moan - having just installed new forum software, why o why o why could we not have upgraded the photo attachment file size and the number of messages in our mailboxes - talk about still working in ancient ways - rant over - it's taken yonks to resize photos, find them and then attach - about 40 mins instead of 4!

Cheers
