Autumn Sun Run ...... then a long route home

Recommended Posts

Some time ago Lois and I  decided to do a Navigational Rally in France.  The Rally started near Epernay and finished very close to Grenoble. Its the very busy bit on the map below.

4 days, 12 stages, 3 plot and bash and a total of some 1500km of gloriously quiet French roads....... Age range of vehicles from 1930's to 1986, anything from a 1930's Lagonda LG45 to a Vauxhall Corsa Sport! Tr7, TR7V8, TR4a all came along as well

and because we were there we carried on from Grenoble, towards Nimes, then the Carmargue, Carcassonne, the Pyrenees, Basque country and the then home via the Guggenheim in Bilboa and Santandar

In total 2400 miles in 10 days

Knackering, but huge fun and what a way to enjoy your TR.:D

Iain

PS..... quite pleased with our result, 2nd in Class of 14 .

20th overall from 70 starters on only our second rally.

Great stuff, Iain!

Looks a good event and what an excellent result!!  As you say, it's a fantastic way to enjoy your TR and that's certainly a decent amount of mileage.

How was the car?  Trouble-free?  Any things that you want to change?  Oh, and what tyres were you using?

Again - well done!!

Hi Tim.

I used the Snowtracs you endorsed with great effect. Not so pleasant on warm, wet, greasy town roads but everywhere else brilliant.

The car ran faultlessly, 1 1/2 litres of oil.......or rather we lost that amount somewhere!

Mechanical issues ........windscreen wiper decided it didn’t like work and the push on section that goes on the splines lost interest in griping the splines..........after market rubbish again....repaired with some epoxy metal.

Changes to the car...honestly nothing, it came into it’s own in the mountains, low ratio diff, overdrive, bags of torque, it made me realise just why it was built that way 61 years ago. Sheer joy!

There is something about a picture of a sidescreen in snow that looks so right for some reason.

Great trip Iain thanks for sharing.
