Hamish
Would this make a good TRR CHAMPS class 3 sprint car ?? https://m.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C945527
Motorsport Mickey
Dunno...print their technical specs and then we compare against what's offered. Couple of immediate thoughts...no description of what capacity the engine is, would it comply to regs ? Also rear axle would it comply again with the regs ? never mind the rest of the spec. Hamish
John eales Rover v8 specialist http://www.johnealesroverv8.co.uk/index.html so ticks that box I would imagine. But it’s a rhetorical question really ! class 3 modified is nearly anything goes ”3.4.5.Class 3 MODIFIED This Class is intended for all cars that do not comply with 3.4.3 or 3.4.4 above. S10 and S12 apply, amended as follows:- S.12.6.1 The engine may be from any vehicle manufactured by Triumph, 4 or 6 cylinders, or Rover for V8 conversions. S.12.8.2 Rear axle arrangement is free.” Edited October 6, 2018 by Hamish Added detail
Motorsport Mickey
Hamish, The devil is in the detail "class 3 modified is nearly anything goes" Turn up with a 5 Litre V8 with lots of torque (it isn't the hp that will win it) which starts to mop up event and then Championship wins and you'll start to hear a lot of riffling as championship regs are inspected along with mutterings of "it's not fair, it's spoiling the weekends of the more original cars, I'm not competitive using the car I enjoy driving etc etc " you may have seen this before . Then you'll see the championship organisers approached and under the fear of losing more competitors than they'll gain by sticking with the regs they wrote you'll be approached with pleads of " I know the regs say that but we didn't MEAN it that way" so effectively you'll be legislated out of the event. "Rear axle arrangement is free.” ...Ditto, it doesn't say any axle is free, only the arrangement. This car has a 4HA axle, "Aaaahhh we didn't mean that" I can hear it now. If you think you can sanitise the car so that it can run within the original stated regs have a go, you'll certainly have fun arguing the toss with championship organisers although strangely many of those who mutter won't put up the official protest fee (used to be £250 ) because being proved wrong hurts financially (you lose the fee) as well as the embarrassment. rcmcewen
As the Bogey Times are based on BHP/Te having a 5litre with loads of power may be a disadvantage. We actively dissuade Official Protests, it is not in keeping with the Championship. The axle is perfectly OK as specified. I have never, if 20 years of Sprint & Hillclimbing, seen or heard of the issues you suggest Motorsport Mickey! Roger
Motorsport Mickey
"We actively dissuade Official Protests, it is not in keeping with the Championship" Excellent ! that must mean the regulations are written clearly and enforced rigorously. In this current above enquiry including the axle, the approval of an official ? of the championship of the axle is welcome removing any "misunderstandings. That then removes the likelihood of protest. In my experience it has not always been that way, in an easy understood reference I would refer you to the TR Register Goodwood sprint (from memory in 1985, admittedly before your 20 years of experience and perhaps now the reason WHY you've not since had experience of it). TWO sprint competitors now EXTREMELY well known in TR circles turned up with non complying Weber carburettors in their class and after discussions between competitors where they refused to remove them and were not ruled against, it took an official protest by another competitor in that class (me) accompanied with the official £250 (at the time) fee, to protest to the highly visible and obvious non compliance to the class specification. They were then ruled against (by the overall RAC Motorsports scrutineer) and subsequently removed into the appropriate modified class, (oh...I got my money back). There is nothing to fear from unambiguous regulations and their application by the championship stewards, it protects any and all competitors from others who would wilfully (sometimes) and neglectfully (much more often the case) break stated regs. However your statement "We actively dissuade Official Protests, it is not in keeping with the Championship" is somewhat unsettling, for without the available sanction of Official protest championship stewards have the onus for decisions firmly placed upon themselves, and not all rise to the challenge. As regards the " not in keeping with the Championship" what other remedy is available if stewards do not adhere to the rules. As a past competitor to both Sprint and Race championships and a keen reader of regulations, I took full advantage of any and all loopholes that were not completely "locked and shuttered" ...for without that effort I would not be trying my hardest. I paid my other competitors the same compliment of expecting them to be doing the same. Mick Richards Edited October 14, 2018 by Motorsport Mickey
Hamish
Luckily - or rather as one would expect of the TRR champs. We is all proper Ladies and Gentlemen so we is all honourable. Any clarification is dealt with by a quiet chat. Besides there is only one event to go and we will know our final standings. Its all very exciting. H Ps family circ prevent me from participating in the last few events this year. So I have to passively watch people pass me by on the results board. Safe racing at castle Combe everyone.
