RobG
Just found a great trick, I know many will know this but maybe newbees and amateurs like me may not think of it. Fitting up new indicator lights glass and rim into the boots. Quite tricky to get in when dry, just smear vaseline around the rim and hey presto slips in a treat. tim hunt
A drop of Fairy Liquid or a little rubber grease also works., Tim

stillp
Vaseline isn't terribly good for rubber. I've used Swarfega with good effect. Pete

Fireman049
Fairy Liquid is a far safer lubricant than Vaseline which attacks rubber. Wasn't Jeremy Thorpe a great advocate of Vaseline??? Tom.

Roger My dad used to fly radio controlled aircraft with ethanol type fuelled engines. He always kept the rubber bands, used to hold the wings etc on, liberally ( see what I did there Tom!!) coated in washing up liquid to stop them drying out from the fuel residue. So should be fine for slipping in the lens on the car.
