mark_smugglers
Hi My 1972 CP project came without any keys. Before I buy a whole new ignition lock, I'd like to explore getting a key cut to fit the lock. But I don't have the key number and neither does British Heritage. I took another look at the lock today. Photos attached. There's a sticker inside the end that the ignition switch slides into that has the numbers 71 on it. It's a long shot but could that be the key number? Or does it just indicate the lock was made in 1971 and fitted to a 1972 car. Live attached some other photos of the numbers on the switch, but I presume these are irrelevant when it comes to figuring out the key number? all thoughts appreciated, as ever. Thanks. Mark. BlueTR3A-5EKT
The numbers inside the switch area may refer to the key No - but what prefix? Used lock - Any use ? https://www.ebay.com/itm/TRIUMPH-TR6-STEERING-COLUMN-LOCK-UKC2719-2-ORIGINAL-LOWE-AND-FLETCHER-INC-KEYS-/282989629992 New lock - 219061/1 is the item you are after in fact - https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?search_group=&q=219061%2F1 Peter W
mark_smugglers
Thanks Peter. Much appreciated. Anyone else think those numbers inside the switch might be a key number and have a view on the prefix? I ask, because having had a quick look at the FS and FR keys being sole on EBay, most seem to be 3 or 4 digits not two. All input most welcome. Thanks all.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Here is a start someone selling Waso key blank for ignition lock - worth asking if they can cut for your lock. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WASO-KEY-BLANK-REPLACEMENT-ASTON-MARTIN-FORD-FIAT-JENSEN-JAGUAR-LOTUS-TRIUMPH/273488007774?hash=item3fad27d25e:g:xpMAAOSwo0JWPJ9n Peter W Edited October 1, 2018 by BlueTR3A-5EKT
Pogo
Hi I’ve has keys cut to fit car locks in the past. I can’t remember which lock it was now (or whether it was one of my TRs or my Jag) but I got it done at my local (at the time) locksmiths. Roger
mark_smugglers
Thanks all. Have found a local locksmith who claims he can cut a key from the lock. So my task for the weekend is to get the shear bolts out so I can take it to him.

Your thread has helped me saving cost from going to the dealer. Locksmith Essex experts have done that task at half the price offered by the dealer.

Hi Mark, I have looked at my ignition key which is for a 1973 car. The key is marked up as WASO, but I also have the key ident which is plastic tag with the number TX1400.? Now I do not know what make of lock refers to WASO. Or whether TX1400 is an actual key number? But if you have a similar number on your lock bits you might be in business? Bruce. It may be that it a better fit on an MGB....?
mark_smugglers
Thanks all. In the end I managed to find a local locksmith who cut some to fit the lock. Thanks for all the input.
