mark_smugglers
Hi My project came with an ignition lock but no key. I'm keen to see if I can get one cut. Where do I look on the lock for the number? It's the steering lock type- i.e. It's on the steering column. I don't really want to take off the sheer bolts and ideally want to see if I can get the lock number whilst leaving the assembly on the steering column. Is this possible? Ps. The numbers aren't on my heritage certificate. I presume it's not worth giving British heritage a call anyway? Thanks all
mark_smugglers
Hi. Anyone got any insight on this? If there's a way to avoid having to replace the lock by finding the lock number and getting a key cut, I'm keen to do so. All input gratefully received. Thanks
John L
Why not call TRGB, or Revington TR they may know how to find/remove the key barrel to find a number, it may be different for the newer locks made by Waco. I did find this company that may help worth a call to them? www.keytrader.co.uk/ John
Bodiam
Mark, When I wanted to get a new ignition key cut (the old one was worn and no number marked on it), BMH were able to give me the original key numbers for a small fee, £5 I seem to remember, so they might be able to help you too. Unfortunately, in my case, it turned out that the lock had been changed some time in the previous 40 years, so I had to get a new key cut to pattern! John
mark_smugglers
Hi. Thanks for that. Unfortunately the key numbers weren't recorded for my car so don't appear on the heritage certificate as the archive department don't have them. So I'm back to taking the lock apart/ finding the number that way. Any insight into where on the lock the numbers are would be rest.
Mike C
Don't know if you will find anything. My drivers handbook says " the lock key number is on the tag attached to the larger key of the key set and does not appear on the lock or key." Followed by directions in the handbook to note the key number in your diary and store the tag in a safe place at home. Pretty much the standard practice in the pre electronic lock era. Graham
Mark just been and had a rummage in the garage for you, I have 2 NOS of the latter 'twin bit' lock types and having had a really good look at them neither have any key numbers stamped on them anywhere, the only stamped numbers on the body is the part number which is (obviously) the same on both of them. I know that some specialist locksmiths are able to make a key from the lock, but you will have to get the lock off the car...................
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Something tells me from back when I sold these things, the Waso locks had a white plastic sticker inside the area that the switch fitted into. Could it be the key number ? If you can unscrew the small screw that retains the switch it could be worth a look. Peter W
