pfenlon
As the title, Has any one fitted gas struts to the bonnet or boot lid Cheers Pink Just a bit of advice, the gas struts on my Pantera were worn out and just wouldn't hold the engine lid up. wanting to retain the "original" look, i stripped them down, painted and fitted new transfers, then fitted a modern strut inside the old one, and the job was a gud un as they say. BUT beware what setting you give to your strut supplier, several USA Pantera owners bought struts that would do the job, but they were too long and too powerful and bent the engine hood beyond repair. Expensive! so you must work out the correct length and the Newton figure, or you could end up with a bit of a dogs breakfast. Graham
Hi niall, tr6 How's things with you Hi Pete, there must be some one who has done this mod Pink Pink sure there was a TR 4 on the Racestorations stand at Lincoln this year that had gas struts on the bonnet
Nigel Triumph
I got a gas strut for the boot of my TR6 from the TSSC Club Shop. Was meant for a Spitfire 1500 but works fine for the '6. Nigel
pinky
Hi nigel, your the man could you show us some pics please Pink
stuart
The car on Racetorations stand was a TR5 and talking to Darryl about them before the show he said it took quite a while to find rams with the right amount of push otherwise unless your stood in the middle of the car you would twist the bonnet when trying to close from one side due to the other side fighting against you. The boot lid on a 6 would probably be easier as its pretty rigid but you still dont want too much effort to close it as the same problem would apply and you might miss the catch Stuart. pinky
Hi nigel, Love it, does it work well with luggage on the top Pink
Nigel Triumph
Hi Pink, Never tried with a boot rack, if that's what you're asking. I think the extra weight would over-power the gas strut. Definitely wouldn't be good for the boot lid. Nigel
