SeanF
Hello all, Does anyone know what the thread is on the shear bolts holding the ignition switch to the column. I want to replace them with regular bolts when I re-install soon. Many thanks, Sean
DaveN
Sean why not fit the shear bolts but don’t overtighen them. That’s what I did and it makes some jobs easier if you remove the switch. I fitted them with a drop of loctite 242.
SeanF
Hi Dave, How did you re-tighten them, or did you fit new shear bolts? Cheers, Sean
DaveN
I fitted new ones put a dab of loctite on them and did them up. Now I used a short ring spanner so as not to run them down to shear.
HarveyCoppock
I cut slots in mine having got them out so I could refit with a stubby screwdriver, but probably shouldn't be telling anyone that....
foster461
I recall they are 5/16x18 thread.
Graham
You will need longer bolts and a few spacer washer otherwise you may find the head of the bolt disappears into the switch housing before you have the bolts nipped up
Will
Use 1 inch long Allen screws. Just grind the head diameter down a bit to fit in the holes.

SeanF
I recall they are 5/16x18 thread. Just to close this off, 5/16 x 18 is indeed the correct thread - thank you Stan. Bought some 1" set screws on ebay and its now fitted - snug as a bug.
