Brooklands Classic car & autojumble day

Bob

I thought  it was your car Bob, I was waiting at the traffic lights by the Cobham Hilton and saw a few clasics (yours included) driving past.  Perfect day for it.  We were in Claygate for a wedding on Saturday and a BBQ today.  Sadly not in the TR - not enough room for all the clutter.:(

Lovely end to a lovely day. Crisp winter coastal run, and down to the beach for a stroll at sundown.  Happy new year all, Deggers

Nice ride yesterday, from Toulouse to after Gaillac where we filled our car trunks with cases of Gaillac wine! B)

The MK2 ran out of gas and the 100/4 had ignition problems…

Long live the TRs!

Had a very pleasant afternoon with the East Midlands area TR group at their belated 50th Anniversary, we were treated to a hog roast and cake. We also had a singer (that I took out for a run in Brenda) and a saxophonist playing in the background whilst sat in the sunshine.

Hi Mike , East Midlands , that's interesting.

I live in East Mids and knew nothing of it.   I don't do Facebook,  maybe  that's why.

Looks like fun though.

Conrad.

Today : Helmingham Hall & Gardens, Suffolk - Festival of Classic and Sports cars ( an event in support of charities) . . .

^ Katie  joined in with the TR Register's Abbott & Stour group of very nice people with very nice cars .. TR6s, Peerless, TR7-V8, and of course a TR4A ..with half a roof panel.

It's an excellent informal type show despite some pretty exotic and equally as diverse cars being allowed in,  which this year enjoyed sublime weather which.. by the end of the day sort of radiates from my fresh lobster-like complexion.  And because of that, I was obliged to stop off at the Sorrel Horse Inn, Claydon  ..for medicinal purposes you understand - to avoid my being dehydrated this evening !

After 2 days racing with classic marques at loton park at the weekend. it was nice to pop out to a local pub meet at the swettenham arms in Cheshire. A good turn out and a good variety of cars.

Ah, the infamous XJ220.

For several years of my professional life I was instructed to pursue all the purchasers worldwide who, when the car finally came off the production line, engaged in a mass 'can't pay, won't pay' exercise. I think I saw every conceivable excuse for not paying for the car including 'it's too wide to go between the bollards restricting access to my road in Chelsea' and dissatisfaction with the shape of the steering wheel! None was successful. Every car was unique and bespoke. I remember seeing more than 100 of them being stored in an old shed at Browns Lane, with a few covered in old tarps and all splattered from bird sh*t from the resident pigeon population. A depressing scene.

Not perhaps the best of Jaguars engineering exercises and the Metro rally engine was possibly not the most appropriate powertrain. Luggage space consisted of room for three briefcases. Not exactly in the Grand Tourer tradition. However. Tom Walkinshaw had some class success with a modified version at Le Mans.

There was a time when you could pick one up for £40-50k. Starting to become an appreciating 'classic' now though.

Not the best photo of a couple of TRs after the all day Valleys and Villages Tour last Sunday. A great tour and my kind of countryside but we will have to repeat it sometime to really appreciate each place we flew through. Very enjoyable but both navigator and driver were exhausted afterwards, and that wasn’t just us a few fellow TRrs said the same.

A bacon roll breakfast was provided, for those who wanted it, beforehand and a very good salad and burger/ banger roll and ice lolly after the run.

This is the third or fourth year we have taken part in this tour.

Dartmoor, popped into two bridges post office office purchased local Pasty, and Salcombe rum and raisin ice cream. Then off to Bellever woods where we sat in shade and enjoyed them, oh and a quick paddle in the stream with the dog, I hadn’t planned paddling myself but slipped off the stepping stone.  Mind you it cooled the foot and soon dried.
