Took my cousin out to lunch. She was born in 1918.   Tom

Lovely end to a lovely day. Crisp winter coastal run, and down to the beach for a stroll at sundown.  Happy new year all, Deggers

+1 What is her secret???

Miles

She wouldn't claim to know. She is active though she no longer plays golf nor drives as of a couple of years ago. She isn't vegan or vegetarian but eats small portions. What's amazing is how sharp is her mind and clear her voice is, just like that of someone half her age. Her reflexes are amazing; I saw her knock a fork off the table and catch it before it hit the ground. My dad is her first cousin ( which I'm told makes me a " first cousin once removed " ), three years her junior and cancer survivor runs 30 miles a week, can do (10) chin ups and 200 push ups. He credits a vegan diet. This could lead to speculation about genetics, but his father ( her uncle ) didn't make it to 60 though " he was still running up stairs " when he got cancer.

Longevity is great, but meaningless without fulfilling the purpose of life - something most never figure out, it seems.

Tom

Not sure I'd want to think like I was 20.....

Last Sunday was when the Lea Valley Group.the Chiltern Group plus a couple from the North London Group visited the Fawley Hill Steam Railway Museum near Henley.

Good to see and hear the train fly up the 1 in 14 slope.

Day 1 road trip. Looks like we chose the right week, run down to Montacute House for a look round and a sandwich. (took Carole ages to realise that we had been before, the last room of the house!) now at Bath Arms Cheddar for two nights. This house was used as inspiration and a model for Wallace and Grommit film The curse of the Wererabbit! They have a film running showing how it was made.

Today’s run in the TR2 120 mile round trip Hawkstone Follies, Shrewsbury. If you don’t mind a three hour walk up and down hills, through woods and down caves and steep paths it’s well worth visiting !

I wasn’t aware that you could get a car down there. Donkeys used to be the only way to get goods up and down.

Suzanna  if you are staying in the Red Lion you can go down a very steep and narrow road and get a permit to park otherwise you have to park at the visitors centre, all goods go down by sleigh and donkey. They were doing one of the houses up and there was loads of scaffolding, must of been ok coming down but to take back up thats going to be a job and a half!

Thanks for that, after my post I did vaguely remember seeing a couple of vehicles parked on the beach in front of a couple of very old cottages.

I was in my 20s when last there and remember how tough it was going back up even then.

We had a great weekend with the British Invasion, Stowe, VT. My TR6 will never win an award but we go for the beautiful setting in the Vermont hills, to meet old friends and just have a good time. The route we take includes VT Rt100 from Ludlow and Stowe. A road so much fun you just want to hit the reset button and do it all again. Picture taken on Sunday as we were preparing to head home.

Day4 Road trip. Left Clovelly this morning stopped off at Castle Drogo for a look round and lunch. Then onto Kingswear for 4 days, giving the TR a rest and using the steam trains and river boats. Staying in a little bolt hole right by the entrance to the upper ferry and railway line.
