Tonights mystery item

Recommended Posts

OK TR playmates who can tell me what this is, its the size of an ignition coil but only has a single -ve LT connection and the cable coming out off the base appears to be some sore of drive cable. the fitting on the other end looks almost like an ignition switch but if it is the barrel has been removed but looks like there are 3 terminals on the rear of it.

Any clues any body ??

Some vintage ignition coils were fitted with key locks....just like this.

It is probably made by Delco Remy. They were called 'Switch Extension Coils'

Do you know what the resistance of the primary side is......it is likely to be 6volt.

Some vintage cars did not use the chassis as an earth return which could be the reason for the multiplicity of wires.

If you dont want it, I would advertise it, as it could be useful to someone.

There is a picture of one in Motor Repair and Overhauling, Vol 4 page 408.

Strange it should turn up on a TR5. I guess it was made in the 1920 / 30s.

A safety ignition coil, not possible to short circut under the bonnet.

Friend of mine used one, alway when he had any ignition problems this caused more problems.

Please keep it at your workshop as a souvenier.

Hi Graham,

is it an 'Interocitor'?

Roger

It doesn't look like one Roger. I'm building mine as a 2197 issue part-work. I started it in 1976. First issue 99p. I get the last issue next week! 13A plug. The newsagent has organised a streetparty and brass band.

Apparently you can now get one from Ikea.

Loved the mystery Graham but had to look up an 'Interocitor' RogerH.

'An interocitor is a fictional multi-functional device that first appeared in the 1949 story "The Alien Machine", which became the beginning four chapters of the 1952 novel This Island Earth'
