37 years of ownership as of this week

Well done Don.

Must look up the exact date, but I bought the 2 in the summer of '80 - so I beat you by ~ 1 year!

It didn't look like this this then, I must dig out and scan some old pictures - perhaps that could be another thread, "Then and Now".

Will do, a job for the next rainy day to find the old photo's and do a bit of scanning.

In the meantime here is one from either Summer 1980 or 1981

Mine is the orangey red one behind the Range Rover. The green car was my first TR2 which I sold to the chap in the flat cap and shades looking toward the camera. I'm the one in the brown and white shirt looking into the back of the Range Rover. We were all off on a day trip to Weymouth if I recall correctly.

I will have had my 4A 48 years next month. On the theme of then and now I attach two similarly posed shots, taken 42 years apart at the start of a 48-hour 2,000 mile Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run, one at Leyland House, Marylebone Road, London the other at Knebworth House, near Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

I am a glutton for punishment and will start my 22nd RBRR on October 5th, with, hopefully, power to add.

That's great, Rod.

And Tim, that's an amazing history, and terrific then-and-now pairing. Thanks for 'em.

Sorry Roger, but I cannot now recall the significance of the Viking T-shirts. For the 1974 RBRR I teamed up with an Australian Club member, Russ Kennery, who was friendly with the then owner of the free circulation Australian Times newspaper, which catered for the large Antipodean expat community in London. Russ managed to convince him that it would be a good idea for his paper to sponsor our car on the event. In return we carried promotional material for the journal and provided articles on preparation of the car and our experiences on the Run. This was the first and unfortunately the only time that my fuel costs for the event were covered.

Hi All,

Purchased my '57 TR-3 on March 7, 1968 in Lowell, Mass for $110.00. I was attending what was then called Lowell Tech (now UMass Lowell) and saw the car on a used car lot while we were walking to the local package (liquor) store. The car was built on January 1, 1957. Last year, its 60th birth year, I finished its restoration. It was a fun car for a college student and a fun car 50 years later.

Very cool milestone Don! We are both at about the same length of time, me with the 2. Kind of makes me miss good old Don Elliott, who so proudly took every opportunity to note that he was the original owner of his car. I am proud of every year of ownership as well!

Cheers

Dan

My BRG TR2 bought in February 1976. Coming up to 43 years as my daily driver.

Now partnered with Signal Red long door TR2 being restored and a Signal Red 1970 TR6PI.

I don't know why the photos post on their side. Anybody help me on this?

Did you post from a mobile phone, John? That seems to happen sometimes when that's how they're uploaded.

Not that I know how to fix it, though...

What hood stick cover ? it's just the toneau folded down behind the seats !!

Bob.

Hi Bob

If I did that with my tonneau cover I wouldn´t get 50 yards up the road before it begins to flap about and become a real nuisance, even with the passenger side covered up. the driver´s half still won´t behave itself. Do you have a back seat in your car? that maybe my trouble.

I got carried away outside The Prospect of Whitby pub and bought my 3A on 22. November 1966. World cup and Tr year. Those were the days. The chassis rusted out and off road from 1969 until 1986 while I fitted the new chassis. I was not so bothered by door gaps in those days.

I took my young daughter to the International and the engine overheated at any speed over 60 mph.. We won the Concours but there were only two cars in my class. The judge stepped back after looking at both cars and fell over backwards. The other owner laughed and the judge looked fed up with him.

A better post would be "Who has the longest ownership of a TR constantly on the road ? "

I had no idea that the hobby would last a lifetime and create such interest and business around the world for so many owners.
