Calling all early TR2 owners. Nerdy detail.

Recommended Posts

I am trying to track down the original starting handle apron guide fitting.

There seems to be an issue for me with my car in that I have a guide fitted that does not go through a square hole in the apron mouth.

Does anyone have detail of the first cars i.e Dec 1953 /Jan 1954.

I know there is a strip from bottom of the apron to the chassis mid point but are there two legs to the angled chassis mounts bolted to the underside bolt? Definately not a strong fitting.

The guide I have is identical to the later type but without the square part, go figure!

hoping that someone can help.

Rod,

To the best of my knowledge, the centre of the bottom lip at the front

of the apron has a sheet metal stay (usually snapped off along with the

bracket on the apron) that goes to the centre of the 3 brackets on the

small front cross tube. The two other ,angled brackets, take threaded

steel rods stays that connect to the starting handle guide under the deck

of the air intake rather similar to the radiator top stays.

They are attached by a bolt thru the 'square' part of the

guide that you seem to be missing. The guide is the same as those on TR3/3A

as far as I know, with the exception that they they are chromed on the TR2.

Moss lists the chrome version under p/n 506721(Don't look at the price tho!)
