Don H.
OK -- Anorak time... I'm changing the fan hub extension on my car for a NOS part from a friend's long term stash. As best I can tell, this will be changing the original 1962 part from my TR3B for an earlier, probably TR2-era, part. Same part number and clearly from the same original tooling. Note that the TR3B extension on the right has drillings for two types of fan mounts. The early TR2/3 extension on the left with no pulley has drillings only for the typical TR fan. Anyone have experience with more of these that might help fill in the story a bit more? Edited July 28, 2018 by Don H.
TomMull
I don't have any information but both of my TR3A's, the newer one quite late (TS73XXX), have the older style with only four holes, like the one on the left above. Tom
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Very tropical version, for twin axial fans? I have not seen the 8 holed type before - which means little as I had once not seen a TR4 original starting handle fitted; until a man turned up and asked for the plug to fill the guide hole in the bumper - I had to leave the shop to take a look. He had ordered the car new with the starting handle option. Peter W
vivdownunder
Don, like Peter I've never seen an 8 hole extension before, so a degree of guesswork. The redundant holes appear to be square pattern rather than rectangular as original, indicating a non TR fan has been tried. Perhaps a novel attempt to overcome cooling shortcomings in hot climes like yours and ours. The longer fan hub is TR4 128318 which is understandable on a TR3B. Don H.
Both the NOS 4-hole and my TR3B's 8-hole extension have part number 108493 cast (or forged?) into the piece. All of the tooling marks are identical -- only the drilling is different. The NOS part before I cleaned it up for mounting: Edited July 31, 2018 by Don H.
vivdownunder
Perhaps another 3B anomoly Don ?. To add to the equation there was a third fan hub a slightly shorter than the long TR4 hub which didn't have a separate p/n either. Don H.
Perhaps, Viv -- where the rules for TR3Bs are concerned, there are no rules. One wonders what might have been the original idea? Was there Standard-Triumph fans with square mounting flanges that would have used the same 5/16-18 threading?
