From Billy Its the Front Mounting Plate on the Diff the 4 Bolts are of a special type of Taper Bolt and do come loose which in turn causes a Clonk when Tourqe is applied, they are located behind the Pinion Flange. Tim D.
Once had a nasty rear end clunk in my Peugeot. Turned out to be a wheel nut rattling around in the spare wheel well
RogerH
Hi Tim, again item #4 should cover this. Roger
Z320
Years ago I had a clonk on the left front wheel for some 100 km. It was a ring spanner which I left on one of the 4 bolts of the falcrum pin.....

TR Paul
Also, the steel sleeves inside the rear diff mounting rubbers can come unstuck from the rubber bit (to use the correct technical terminology). Best wishes, Paul
Z320
Yeah I know, shame on me
JochemsTR
Roger, nice! Just a question, which of them can be checked by crawling under the car? Before removing the Diff, I would like to exclude the obvious ones... Jochem
roy53
A very good list Roger. Plus add Nail's point. As i had one of these bolts work lose and jam the prop shaft. When there are so many bolts at the rear it could be lots of things that clonk.Shock absorber bolts and wheel fittings would be my first look at. As he states that the clonk comes in after things warm up i would not think broken parts. Roy
