Window mechinism

Recommended Posts

Hi Team

I have started trying to put my window mechanisms back in the car and the first attempt was a mess so I have it all out again and have spent a lot of time going thru past posts on the topic which have given me plenty of things to work on when I try reinstalling.

before I do however I have one question around the amount of movement in some of the winder mechanism joints.

in the whole mechanism there is a central joining bar that runs between the actual winder and the x that hooks into the window and door slides in my case I seem to have what I think is a lot of slop/slack in the "rivet " at each end that holds this central bar . ( hope this makes sense)

my question is are these two "riveted" joints supposed to have plenty of free movement

Sorry this is about the best way I can describe it

Also I dont seem to have any thackery washers , is there another alternative

cheers jim

If you have any play then there will be lost movement the bar should be able to move OK but slack isnt good. You do also need the Thackery washers Im afraid. Also check the fit of the swivel pin 650236 in the hole in the door frame as any slack there will make a world of difference to the window fit, that bolt also needs to be very tight (Loctite if needed) as if it comes loose the window will flop around.

Hi Jim,

new regulators are available (usually) and work well

Item # 90 https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/body-chassis/doors-fittings/doors-fittings-tr4-4a.html

Thackery washers are around but need hunting down.

Roger

PS - PM mike3md as he may know where to get them

I couldnt get the Thackery washers for mine so I made equivalents using a wave (edit) washer sandwiched between two very thin stainless plain washers.

Pete I did wonder if that or something similar would be an alternative ,

Stuart /Roger thanks for the replies Stuart the "rivets" are still holding tight and there seem to be some wavy thin washers within the join which to me indicates there is supposed to be some movement rather than just through the usual axis, how would i know whats too much any further thoughts

cheers

If they have slack end to end rather than wobble than thats when they are really worn.

You could try this company for Thackery washers http://www.springlockwashers.com/washers-for-industrial-use/double-coil-washers/

or these http://www.washer-factory.com/

These guys do wavy washers too https://www.asraymond.com/flat-springs.html
