Electric, Again, Doh.

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Trying to finish off my electrical installation and hopefully not a million miles away.

But its new electrical harness installation on a bare car (so no old harness references) so I have some question which might be obvious to everyone, but err not to me.

So I’m using the brown book and the advance auto-wire wiring diagrams but need some clarification on a few points.

  1. Horn Relay. I’m sure I found a schematic that said what wire to what connection. But as I cannot find it can someone enlighten me. There are C1, C2, W1, and W2 connections and as far as I can work out the following wires, plain purple X 2, but linked, Purple Yellow trace and Purple Black trace. So I’ve connected it up as per some photos etc but would just like some confirmation of what colour to what connection.

  1. What wire go to the white plastic connector block located in front of the fuse box? So far I have a brown single and a twin brown both from the harness but nowt else, sure something is missing.

  1. What wires go in and out of the fuse box. Think I’ve got most of it ok from the schematics but seem to have a couple of wires left over from the harness, a black erath (Lucar Spade) and a Green with a black or possibly slate trace (Lucar Spade) which is believe is either the fuel gauge to sender or possibly heater motor, but as it’s by the fuse box fuel sender seems favourite. But where does it connect.

  1. Also slightly puzzled by the front indicators. All connects up ok (hopefully) bar the green from each indicator and repeater which seem to have nowhere to go. But thinking about it sense would say they connect together so linking the indicator to its repeater but I’m not sure so can someone confirm or shoot down my thoughts.

All help much appreciated.

Cheers

Keith

Hi All

Thanks Colin for the photo's.

Couple of things.

Does the white block just have to 3 brown (1 single and a twin) wires go to it? Depending on whether you use the 71 or 72 autowire schematic seems to show that or a red/brown as well. And as my car is a Jan 72 i'm not 100% sure whether i should use the 71 or 72 for the schematic.

Pretty sure the Horn relay is right, especially as magnifying it on my PC i can se it properly now. Ho Ho.

Looking at the BS colour codes list pretty sure the Gn Black is the washer motor, just mistoke light and dk, ooops.

And hopefully someone can confirm i'm correct or not with the indicators.

Cheers

indicators are fairly easy, If it is a green wire from the indicator (there should also be a red and black then the green connects to either green /white or green/red depending which side you are fitting on the wiring loom. the side repeaters are the same so you will need a double push fit connecter for these, but check that the earth and the live are correct as I have bought new ones and they are sometimes wired the wrong way around! Ah Yes makes sense now. The greens do go together but need to link to the appropriate flasher circuit, right or left so thanks, sorted now.

The rest of my Q's were answered as well, so cheers

Hi All

Connector Block issue, ref item err 1. above, oh they are all 1, so number 2,. Lol

Am I missing a wire?

I have a 1972 UK supplied RHD TR6 Pi and a new Autosparks Harness.

So my question.

The wiring diagram in the Official Triumph Repair Operations Manual shows a connector block connected to the Fuse box and Starter via brown wires presumably within the harness, which I can find, as long as I’ve got the right ones, which I’m sure I have. But the diagram also shows a connection to the Alternator via a Brown and Red wire, which I simply cannot find in my new harness, unless I really have just missed it.

I’ve noticed from other wiring diagrams that the US versions show the connector block with its Drown/Red wire for the 71 model year but no block from 72 onwards. But there is only one RHD diagram so no year variations.

Now my car definitely had the connector block fitted when I got it and so would presume I need a Brown/Red wire.

So the question is what do I do, hopefully it’s simple but I cannot seem to simply follow the RHD wiring diagram in the official Triumph manual as my harness does not seem to match it.

Cheers

Keith
