TR2 rear brake drum removal

Recommended Posts

My 2 has wire wheels. I think I have a leaking near side rear slave cylinder so need to remove the brake drum. I removed the wheel but no setscrews holding the drum were visible! It looks like I need to remove the castellated nut which I assume attaches the wire wheel extension to the axle. I searched the forum to no avail. Can you knowledgeable chaps tell me how to proceed in words of one syllable? I am getting on a bit but didn't think I was totally gaga.

Many thanks

Rod

Assuming it is an early Lockheed axle with pegs to locate the wheel you will have to take the hub off.

First you would need to remove the split pin and the nut which may be tight.

The fluid could be axle oil as the seals are known to be weak.

Sorry I got this wrong the set screws to remove the drum are behind the collar.

You need to look at a manual for all the data if you are not confident get a garage to do it for you.

Only when theres a bolt on wire wheel hub.

My tr2 had original wire wheel hub, you dont need to remove the splitpin and hub.

Thanks very much Edwin and Ewan. It is original so I removed the collar and all is revealed!

Maybe I am totally gaga after all.

Cheers Rod
