seantr6
I have had today an issue starting the Triumph, up till now the car has been running fine I suspect the fuel pump to be the problem as when I turn the ingnition key I can't here the pump whiring away behind me. The question is there a quick fix to try before dismantling/ replacement I.e hitting with a hammer Ps that's how frustrated I am Sean
aardvark
Which pump you got Sean?
barkerwilliams
Start with the easy bits before getting dirty. Is it a PI? Fuel pump inertia trip switch. (modern type fuse couples the connectors beautifully) Is there 12 volts on both wires on the inertia switch, 12v in from relay / ignition & 12v out to pump? seantr6
Hi all I believe it's the replacement Lucas pump Sean

Steves_TR6
As above, check the inertia switch Check pump is getting power Check pump earth Only then think about refurbing/replacing the pump!
aardvark
As above, check the inertia switch Check pump is getting power Check pump earth Only then think about refurbing/replacing the pump! +1 ..... and dont hit it with a hammer! If it is kaput then send it to Neil F for refurb. Cheers Dave
TriumphV8
I would start in the middle to exclude most of the culprits. Check for +12V AND minus at the fuel pump! If there is both the pump is damaged, if not the power supply is wrong. Than the inertia switch as told above and if not the culprit if the key switch supplies +12V when ignition is on (Zündschloss)
seantr6
Thanks for all the advice guys so the culprit faulty inertia and damaged cable to the solenoid, thankfully all discovered before the trusty hammer called into action, on a separate note I've recently changed my starter motor is there a market to have these overhauled Sean
barkerwilliams
No guarantee but starter motor is usually new brushes & solenoid. Parts available widely. DIY job but sorry there is no need to use that hammer. Remove strip and have a look first. Alan
