The joys of sorting someone else's cock ups.

Recently acquired a 4A that had clearly had a lot of work done over the years but never been driven and worked on by someone who hadn't worked on TRs. Hopefully a keen amateur but if it was a trained mechanic I'd be cheesed off.

Spent yesterday afternoon upside down in the footwell working out why the overdrive worked on all four gears and reverse. Found the inhibitors bi-passed because they didn't work - easily sorted by cleaning up the swiches only to find when wired up properly they still weren't inhibited only to find that some ham fisted twit had managed to short out the wiring which was earthing via the clip/cover that goes under the steering column. Also this had taken out the headlamp wiring. Overdrive switch upside down.

As for the horn it had it's own switch presumably the absent horn pencil and link wires that connect round the steering column rubber U/J.

Only 5 studs holding the o/s trailing arm.

1 step forward, 3 steps back.

The fun of TR fettling. Do you mean 5 studs holding the hub onto the t/a? Steel into aluminium can be a problem. I have a feeling the torque to do them up is quite low, Was the stud missing or sheared off?

Welcome to my world, I see this stuff everyday of the week! No disrespect to our Colonial cousins but some of the worst cockups are on ex US imports!

Stuart.
