KiwiTR6
Hi All. Replaced her front shocks today and noticed that the bump stop bracket and stop shown in the Haynes manual are missing. Had a look on the Moss site and there is no sign of these parts in their front suspension parts diagram. Does this mean they were only fitted to certain models, and what limits the suspension droop if they're not fitted - just the shock? Regards Gavin
Waldi
Hi Gavin, The upper bump stop rubber is inside the shock absorber. Important to check it is there. The shock absorber also limits the lower (outward) travel. Waldi
Mark69
Don’t have them fitted to my 69, I assumed it was the shock that limited travel. Their was a post recently about replacement shocks being too long resulting in steering locking up when fully extended. Interested in seeing pic from Haynes manual. Mark69
Not sure I have the upper one on mine Waldi, are they fitted internally? Mark Edited May 20, 2018 by Mark69
aardvark
I think some manuals show the TR4(a?) suspension instead of the 6. The 5 and 6 don’t have the bump stop and the trunnion is different. Cheers Dave
Mark69
Spot on Dave. Edited January 14, 2019 by Mark69
Waldi
Hi Mark, Yes, they are. If you pull out the shock (removed from the car) you should see a rubber ball fitted around the chromed stem. Cheers, Waldi Not sure I have the upper one on mine Waldi, are they fitted internally? Mark

KiwiTR6
Thanks for the clarification Dave and Waldi, I shall carry on regardless then
Waldi
Mark, I would change them, that is what I and another member on this forum did (mine came from TR shop which were too long, so sent them back. At least one other supplier had the same wrong items. There is a post on this forum. During normal driving it may not be an issue, but with maintenance and MOT with wheels hanging in the air on a lift, the trunnion will seize to the lower spring seat pan, making the steering very hard. I guess this would result in an MOT failure in the UK too. Regards, Waldi
