Good morning All,

I have reached the stage where I need to do something about the seats in my TR3a.

I presently have TR3a original seat pans which I re-upholstered my self and whilst they look nice and are fine for short journeys, they don't offer enough support under the thighs and on any journey of more than about an hour, I end up crippled.

I have at various times in the past looked enviously at the offerings from Racetorations but at over £700 each it is hard to justify the expense.

So my next option was MX5 seats. In the past my wife has had an MX5 and the seats in that were extremely comfortable. S/H seats are available relatively cheaply and from the various posts on the forum, I understand they can be made to fit a TR3a (just) but to match the car they would need to be recovered and again at that point they get expensive. I have been quoted a budget price of £500 a seat to recover them in leather and that excludes and replacement foam that may be necessary.

So my questions are, am I having my plonker pulled with that budget quote for recovering an MX5 seat or is that about the norm and if so what have other forumites done to improve the seats in their sidescreen cars at a reasonable price?

Ian,Roger and Andrew.

A chap in our group here in Spain had his TVR seats covered in leather for €300 the pair and they are perfect according to an XK120 owner from U.K. he is thinking of shipping them out to be done. He also knows where to get the correct seat guides for MX5 in Warrington. ( Not TR Bitz by the way).

Best tip is to supply the leather yourself or it takes too long to get the material here.

Thanks to all, and I think I am now sorted. I am going to "the Winchester Man" to look at a pair of MX5 seats that have been re-upholstered with black leather facings and white piping and would be a pretty good match for my present seats and are a reasonable price. If they are as good as they look in the photos I'll be happy.

Hi Dave,

His name is Paul Bishop and he is based in a village/hamlet called Owlsebury which is south of Winchester.

If you need his full details let me know and I drop you a PM.

Hi Ian

I know the village well, I went through it on the way to work and home again. Don't know of a factory there so it must be a cottage industry type..
