martinjohn
I have just purchased some new front brake pads for the TR6 and notice that on the back of the steel part there is what appears to be a piece of plastic or metal about 1 mm thick glued on, is this to replace the stainless anti-squeal shims fitted as standard or does it need to be removed or do i just fit as they are together with the shims, any suggestions please. RogerH
Hi Martin, leave as is. It replaces the metal anti-squeal shim. Roger
Rem18
The lack of shims make for a great pedestrian warnings system here ????
martinjohn
Thanks Roger So basically what you are saying is when replacing the pads leave the standard stainless steel shims out. Martin
Mike C
I always use anti squeal compound- sick of the neighbours and I suffering the brake noise until the pads wear in.
RogerH
Hi Martin, yes. The PTFE backing works very well. Just make sure there is enough room to get the pads in without tearing off the padding. Also make sure the pads are free on their retaining pins. Roger
martinjohn
Thanks roger. I wont discard the old st.st shims just yet and will hang them on a hook somewhere in the garage( most probably never to be seen again) Martin
