Trunnion advice

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I'm reassembling the front suspension on my TR4, I've fitted the trunnion and now I've got the thrust washers and lock washers to fit to the outer part of the trunnion/wishbone I've also got a large bag of shims. Can someone explain what I should be aiming for, should there be movement here ie should the thrust washer be able spin or is the whole thing supposed to be packed tight using the shims?

Thanks

Bruce

These shims, are they big enough to fit over the spigot of the trunion/wishbone arm/lock washer? The later lock washer had a raised thin flange on its outer face to retain the seal backing shim you describe.

How wide are your rubber grease seals?

Use 3/8" wide without shims. (seal part no 115702)

Use 5/16" wide with shims ( seal part no 134319)

I think the shims fit either side of the grease seal to hold it in place - came in at CT7219 TR4 - I have seen the shims on the parts shelf but have never fitted them.

The side play is adjusted with the shims in place the same way as the non shim set up is. Shim is probably the wrong word to describe their purpose.

Dimensions of the shim you have would be useful.
