ians
I need a rebuild kit and am trying to identify if I have H4 or H6 carbs without taking them off the car. There are no tags anywhere. 1956 TR3 but no gaurantee that they are the originals. I have measured the inlet diameter as 1.587 inches by removing the air filter. Any one know which they are? Thanks Ian
roger murray-evans
Ian, The H6 has a 4 stud fixing flange to the manifold. The H4 is 2 stud. Yours is almost certainly the former. Cheers Roger M-E
Lebro
not if it is 1½" dia. H6 / HS6 is 1 3/4" Bob.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Some illustrated parts lists for you. Peter Taylor's drawings are pretty much spot-on. Cheers Peter W H4 Type - https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/fuel-system-induction-controls/carburettors-manifolds/carburettors-air-cleaners-h4-su-tr2.html(2 stud mounting to manifold) H6 Type - https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/fuel-system-induction-controls/carburettors-manifolds/carburettors-air-cleaners-h6-su-tr3-4.html(4 Stud mounting to manifold) HS6 Type https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/fuel-system-induction-controls/carburettors-manifolds/carburettors-air-cleaners-hs6-su-tr4a.html (Which you could have as they fit OK - Choke cable comes in over the top of the carbs and has flex tubes between float chambers and carb main jet) Edited April 5, 2018 by BlueTR3A-5EKT

roger murray-evans
Bob, With any SU I've come across, the carb intake is not the carb 'size'. The 'size' is the diameter of the manifold mating flange/butterfly. Quite what science dictates the smaller intake orifice I really don't know, but 1.59" is what my H6 carbs are on the air filter side and 1.75" on the manifold flange side. BlueTR3A-5EKT
OK thanks guys its 4 stud so must be H6. Ian Unless it is HS 6........
ians
Its definitely only H not HS. I had already worked that one out from watching the Moss YouTube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfLecCi0ppI They did say that the inlet diameter was smaller than the outlet so that was a bit of help but what they didn't mention was the two / four stud difference.
