Grum
Hi All, I'm new to TR6 ownership, i've just taken on a 1971 that needs a few jobs doing to finish it. The first on I want to tackle is the lack of soft top, apparently the old one was rotten so the previous owner threw it away. Thank fully he kept the frame. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy one from ? I traditionally use TRGB for my other car parts but saw that Manners have a Mohair for £430, seems a good price but I don't want to go cheap and spend a week fitting. I'd rather bu one recommended by others as a good fit ! Thanks in advance
Adrian Lawton
Grum, Just had a new Mohair Hood fitted and the frame refurbished and powder coated with new seals and velcro etc. It looks really smart and an excellent taut fit. The hood was bought from Don Hoods and cost £369.50 exc. VAT. I confess I didn't fit it myself but had my local Triumph specialist fit it and it was worth it. I did spend more than I thought as I had the frame refurbed because it was bent and the rivets were all worn but as I will not be replacing the hood in my lifetime I bit the bullet. DRD
+1 for Don hoods, good quality and value.
brian -r
+2 for don hoods. They are on a four week delivery at the moment. Just received mine last week, quality is good and delivery was earlier than first quoted. Cheers Brian
pfenlon
I bought a new Vinyl Don hood, their delivery date was flawed by quite a margin but I did receive an apology and the hood is A1.
John Lewis
+ 3 for Dons hoods, but I can only vouch for vinyl, not mohair
pheaney
I had a Black Mohair hood (DMC) fitted last year by Don Trimmings and am very pleased with the quality and the result. It was well worth getting them to fit it and good value.
bluebob
Grum yes another one I can also vouch for don hoods mine is blue mohair to match tonneau looks great don't bother with hood bag as this leaves the car open when parked the tonneau you just fold back when driving and cover seats when parked also gives more storage as you can put things under tonneau giving more boot space (for the miss`s stuff? SeanF
I have been recommended to buy a vinyl hood from Don Trimming, but I see that they offer three different vinyl choices - Heavy Duty, Superior Quality and Premium Quality so I'm looking for advice on which one is the best buy. Is it a case of most expensive is best, or are there other considerations? Prices including a zip out window are HD one £170 plus VAT, SQ £185 plus VAT and the PQ one is £218 plus VAT which is still cheaper than the offering from Moss (including their current 15% discount) and Rimmers. It would be great to hear comments from anyone who has fitted one of these or the Moss or Rimmers ones. Many thanks, Sean
DRD
I have the PQ one from Don Hoods, I've been very happy with it. The material is supposed to be as good as the original Everflex stuff. Daz

StuartG
I purchased and fitted a new Don hood 2 years ago and it is very good quality.
SeanF
Thanks Stuart. Do you remember which one you bought? Sean
