Was,nt that CP2 Roger and at one time owned by TR Bitz.

Did not know CP1 existed.

Regards Harry

Being a bit of a Doubting Thomas, I am amazed that the usually very well informed TR5 community have never heard of this car its registration or history.

I shall do some local digging.

Bitz did own CP2, and had CP1 in for work at the same time, the car was restored NOT to standard spec either, which is a bit silly.

It is a real shame to restore a car as significant as that and not retain the features that mark it out as being what it was, stuff like the pump under the bonnet and the lack of air bleed etc etc. Yes I know the factory pretty soon changed all those things and more but for this car they should be there as that makes it what it is.

Years ago I owned a very early series 1 XJ6 and those early cars were assembled "Offline" so had lots of very different features that were soon changed when the proper production line got going but when I restored that I made sure it had all those features retained to mark it out as to what it was.

The ride height is incorrect on the rear IMHO....perhaps the wrong springs or it's had a rear shock conversion!

I think the current owner resides quite near Stansted Airport unless I'm mistaken...?

:o)

I was just wondering, it may well just be the camera angle :- but the full on rear picture seems to show the left hand rear wheel/tyre sitting a little proud of the bodywork?. Or are they "all like that"?

Could be parked on uneven ground, looks like soft grass verge.

I've just had a look at mine in the profile photo, this was on tarmac.

Fully agree. To obliterate any early production features, regardless of whether they function well or not is sacrilege. Classic car speculators are known for this type of thing.

The same people who rip out original Victorian fireplaces and original sash windows for UPVC believing they are making improvements !

I too spotted it in the Telegraph this morning and was sure I had seen it before, but as stated above I think that was CP2.

If genuine then I am with everyone else ideally it should be as it left the factory to be significant to a true enthusiast. Many small details wrong, and it does not look like a recent restoration. Every chance past owners have made small modifications to "improve" it possibly unaware of what they had.

Was not the bleed valve a recommended factory retro fit sent to garages to fit when servicing?

It will be interesting to see what it fetches and if it turns up at Lincoln. A good number of the early cars now exist, I am still seeking CP6 LHP 293F the TR 5 that got me to give up Mini's.

By the looks of the bleed valve its a standard 6 type, the ones retro fitted were nothing like that.

Stuart, if I remember rightly, CP2 went for £79,995 in July 17.

Last time I saw that one it looked a lot more original than this one.

I watched this live on-line and the auctioneer really didn't seem to to make any great effort to 'sell' it. Mentioned it was CP1 and descibed it as a TR5 P1(one) and that was it!

I also followed it on line from very early on and the first auctioneer was superb until this idiot took over.

I will be polite, in my view the second auctioneer that sold CP1 was useless, he kept getting his lots, words wrong and was constantly wittering away with his thoughts out loud.

That said it gives the buyer the opportunity to spend on bringing back its originality as CP2 went for circa £79,995 last year....

I often watch the Chasing Classic cars programme from the US with Wayne Carrini, it's surprising how certain Auctioneers can get the best price out of the Bidders?

Still surprised it didn't go for more, although if the originality is compromised that will put people off.

Anyone able to confirm the re number of the 'CP1' that went at auction (its no longer showing on the auction site) a few weeks ago for £50.000?

Was it LHP 288F or LHP 289F?
