Experimental idle control - need servo or mu takeoff

Recommended Posts

Inspired by Rogers somewhat over the top radiator blind ....... im thinking of electronic idle control for my 6 :-)

The idea is to install a second idle valve, like the thumb screw thats standard but in the form of an electronic solenoid.

Thus by opening the solenoid i can add extra air for a higher idle when cold starting, and maybe evolve this to a more sophisticated control system to manage idle revs electronically .....

But first i need to connect up the new idle solenoid

Im thinking of adding another takeoff in the front manifold, the rear having one for servo and the middle one to the mu, the fron is blanked off presently.

Or... a second idle control valve at the rear manifold.

Does anyone have a spare vacuum takeoff ( servo or mu) that i could buy, as they are NCA on moss website?

Regds and happy christmas !

At the opposite side of the air valve the plug can be

pushed out of the air rail and a M16x1,5 can be cut in.

This takes a banyo bolt giving a 1/2" rubber tube

connector. This can be connected to many popular

two wire air valves.

This will be a simple on/off solution.

If you employ a Megasquirt MS2 you

can drive an idle air valve IAC to change

the air feed in 256 steps when engine is warming up.

Thanks Mark, Andreas

I might go the m16 tap route but want to experiment first, hence ideally using a servo sized takeoff

Do you know the thread for those by any chance?

Hi Steve. I've been musing along the same lines. What about a tee-piece for the balance pipe between manifolds 2 & 3? Then you can hide the idle valve underneath and it'll be nice and discrete.

That’s a good idea Richard!

Think i’d still prefer the original thought of an additional barake servo takeoff if i can find one!

Steve

You might try Chris Witor. I suspect he'll have one to sell.

David

Thanks David, have ordered one of Chris’s ‘lightweight’ takeoffs :-)
