Deggers
Evening chaps, Anyone happen to know the availability of one of these? The single window hoods from Moss et al, seem only to have the larger window type. I'm hoping to find the original smaller style. Louis Metelko
Only way is to have someone custom sew a hood together. I went through to same problem about ten years ago. Added to my problem is I was trying to find a correct sized rear window kit in Geranium! Good luck on finding someone with the skill to make it. roger murray-evans
Deggers, I shall be in the same boat next year with TS70L (I hope!). I think you'll find that a bespoke hood is the only way you will get what you want.Expect to pay your favourite trimmer near 3 times the price of the usual retail offerings. The material used will have only a small bearing on the cost..It may just be worth asking Don Hood if they have a pattern that is exactly what you require. Send them a pic of that early Police car.You may be lucky! Good luck Roger Murray-Evans
roger murray-evans
Ahha! It's not a Police car! Roger M-E
iain
Deggers is that your car? RAC Rally I guess? Iain
stuart
As you have a 3a why would you want the earlier hood that has very limited rearward vision hence why the factory changed it at TR3 production. Stuart.
TR24178
Just done 1600kms on a navigational event in our TR2 in France, I made my own single window top, buts its was a pain in the bum on junctions and reversing when we wrong slotted!! At the pre event dinner (November Sun Run which was actually in October) they showed a film of early 50's Monte Carlo Rallies showing TRs with single windows and then in '55 they were using 3 window tops Forgotten how to put up pictures, is it any easier these days? <a href="http://s1263.photobucket.com/user/canvasco/media/P1020365_zpsa0986fb2.jpg.html"target="_blank"><img src="http://i1263.photobucket.com/albums/ii632/canvasco/P1020365_zpsa0986fb2.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo P1020365_zpsa0986fb2.jpg"/></a> Edited November 3, 2017 by TR24178
Deggers
Thanks for the replies gents. Deggers is that your car? No, sorry Iain. It's a picture I found as reference. (Not sure if the car still exists?). As you have a 3a why would you want the earlier hood that has very limited rearward vision A good question Stuart, and one to which I can only reply "I like the look of it". It may well be that the impracticality of driving with the thing would change my mind - but still, I'd like to try ... if I can find one. Cheers, Deggers
iain
Hi Deggers, its on the DVLA site, so I guess it does in some form or other Iain
rhino_mac
I couldn't stand having a single window on my 3a. It's claustrophobic enough in there with the roof on. There would be a massive blind spot over your shoulder when reversing too.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
I have somewhere a NOS Amco (USA period accessory maker) cream/white soft top for sidescreens car without any windows fitted ie. You can not she rearwards ! So you could probably get your own fitted. PM me if interested and I will go searching. Peter W
Deggers
I have somewhere a NOS Amco cream/white soft top . . . Hi Peter - at the moment, I'm ideally keeping an eye out for a black top, but many thanks indeed for the offer. Cheers, Deggers
ianc
In the early 1960s, I was very glad that my TR2 had a 3-window soft top, even though the TR2 was quicker than most other cars on the road. With the volume and speed of modern traffic, I would consider it dangerous (perhaps even suicidal) NOT to have a 3-window soft top. Ian Cornish
Bill.P.
Hello Deggers, yes, a very interesting picture....definitely taken on the RAC rally in early March 1954 where OS 9049 was a competitor (see my published articles on that event)....it is an RAC man, not Mr Plod of course. This car (TS 556) was only two weeks old at the time of the pic, and it WAS on the Register in the early days of the club, but not I think now. It was Black with Geranium trim , hood and sidescreens, as per Tom Davenport's old TR2, TS 477. There are plenty of photos of the 14 TR2s on this Rally, nearly all are front views.....rear views are very rare....where did the pic come from may we ask? Bill.P.
Forgot to add that OS 9049 is an exceedingly rare registration, "OS" being Wigtownshire in South West Scotland,,,,,,it was probably the only TR2 ever sold there ! BP

BP Hi Bill ... blimey, didn't realise I'd stumbled on such a rare one! The original picture is from "The George Phillips Collection", a great source of early Triumph photographs held at the Stanford University Revs Digital Library. The link can be found HERE. Deggers
Hi Deggers, its on the DVLA site, so I guess it does in some form or other Thanks Iain, good to know it still exists. Interestingly, in the George Phillips Photography Collection where I found the original picture, I also came across a photo of your own VHP529, dated December 19th 1957. Maybe you've seen it already? iain
Hi Deggars, the Revs collection is a good source of interesting photos. I purchased a copy of the photo you refer to some years ago. Incidentally there are some great shots of the first Tr2's, Le Mans Tr2's, the TRS cars and the Works Tr4's in the collection. Iain
Bill.P.
Thanks Deggers.....didn't know of this link/collection.....a good many old favourite pics, but lots of "new" ones too, Bill P.
Don H.
Evening chaps, Anyone happen to know the availability of one of these? TR2window1.jpg The single window hoods from Moss et al, seem only to have the larger window type. I'm hoping to find the original smaller style. Cheers, Deggers Hi Deggers -- This seems like an easy request. http://trf.zeni.net/wc/specials11.20/4.php
Deggers
Thanks Don. From what I gather, TRF (like Moss etc) only offer the larger style single window. It's only a small difference, I know, but .... Either way, large or small, it sounds as though the single window hasn't garnered much favour with previous owners, or the TR fraternity on the whole: "pain in the butt" and "suicidal" kinda lending hints to it's waining popularity! Fair points indeed gents, as always all advice appreciated. Cheers, Deggers
Don H.
Are you looking for a top like the one on TS1, Deggers? It oughta be possible to learn how that one was sourced without too much difficulty.
Deggers
You're right, Don ... if I do decide to go ahead with the idea, I'll get in touch with the club direct. Cheers
