james christie
Has anybody tried changing the engine mountings with the engine and gearbox still in situ on a sidescreen car ? James
Fireman049
Hi James ~ Yes I did it on my 3A. Quite straightforward. I also fitted the four Steady Brackets (106428) to beef-up the mountings. My TR is fitted with a rack and pinion steering which may make things easier? Tom. iain
James yes it can be done, I don't remember any particular problems apart from the usual of needing two hands on one arm! Iain
james christie
Ha! This is encouraging. I have r & p steering but the steady brackets disappeared long ago. Looks like the weekend will be profitably occupied Thanks for your motivating replies James

Charlie D
Hello, About a month ago I was really happy to have fitted my engine and then spent the next two days installing the gearbox. I then went to fit the timing chain only to discover that the timing chain tensioner mounting post not only screwed into the front engine plate, but it was also peened over at the back of the front engine plate. This meant that I had to remove the front engine plate to do the peening. (One of those times when I felt like giving up on the whole job.) However… It was not tooooo difficult to jack the engine up way above the engine mounts, and then simply (Simply !!!) remove the front engine plate. So yes, getting the engine high enough is possible.
