Commision plate for CR model

Recommended Posts

The commission plate for my CR model that I'm restoring was missing when I purchased it. I've just received a new blank original type and one of the fields that requires stamping is: Gross Laden Weight. I've no idea what this should be so if anyone has a CR with this type of commission plate could they please let me know the value in lbs that is stamped on it.

Thanks Regards

Dex

Hi Dex,

I am sure that the CR series TR6's had the Gross Laden Weight in Kilos' 1380kg also the Minimum Kerb Weight in Kilos 969Kg. The CP has 2992 ilbs.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Dave from sunny Spain

I should have said that they were screen printed on, not stamped and also that the weights differed by the year and whether USA or UK. Maybe the weight I stated was maybe a '74 model as 1380 equates roughly to 3036 ilbs.

I had this not so long ago and one of my local specialists asked around many, many knowledgeable people and it was concluded as Rog (Pogo) has said that the CP and CR up to about 6000 had the plate stamped in lbs with after 6000 being in kgs.

Peter the overdrive was an factory fitted extra and so was the hard top. The factory made no weight difference if either O/D or hard top were fitted. Always 2992 lbs. My saffron 1972 TR6 came with both and wire wheels too from new and the comm. plate weight stayed the same.

This is I believe, the original commission plate for my 1974 CR. It is off the car at the moment because I am rebuilding. As you can see the Gross Laden Weight is not stamped in. The space is blank. Hope this helps.

Thanks Sean, yes Roger I did wonder why the space for the weight was still in black and not prepared for stamping as the other areas. On reflection I think I'll leave it blank as only the commission number is required for MOT purposes.

Hi ...I don't want to hijack this thread but the commission plate is missing off my CP '71 TR6...I've found out what the correct number is off the club and am going to purchase a blank plate...Is there anyone that offers a service of stamping the numbers in the correct sizes and or fonts onto the plate?

Carl at TR Trader does.

He needs to see various bits of paperwork before he'll do it.

Give him a call to check - 0161 485 5005.

The very last of the RHD CR series had 1360kgs stamped on them, see image below, as did all Canley assembled LHD CP and CR series, and all of the images that I have of the RHD CP and CR series have 2292lbs. I've not come across a plate with no weight stamped on it apart from the TR6's assembled in Belgium albeit most of those have a second plate with gives the weight.

Cheers

Thanks for the info Derek, the difference I can see is that the weight is obviously printed on whilst everything else is stamped, so possibly the ones that are blank are non original plates

Hi Derek,

Does this mean that I have an incorrect commission plate on my car albeit with the correct details stamped in (see post 12 above). The car is CR but the plate appears to be a mid range CP version (lbs instead of Kg). It appeared to have been original. When removed it had the car's original pimento red colour beneath even though the car had been re-sprayed signal red along the way.

Thanks

Sean

I think your plate is correct for your car. As Derek said above, the very last of the CR Series cars had the weight in kilos. Your plate is the same as the CR plates that I do and with info from Derek - and it certainly looks original.
