I don't know if it is correct, but I have always done so as it seems to stop the rattles and prevent squealing as there are no anti-squeal shims behind the TR3A pads.

I clean the backs of the pads and reapply copper grease whenever I grease the front suspension.

At the risk of hijacking this thread...

 

Over on the TR4 section there's been a discussion about the best available pads, especially for "fast road" use (or what I might call "normal TR driving" ).

 

My 4 has the early calipers a la TR3's; what are the thoughts on best available pads for those A or B type calipers? Source would help too.
