TR6 Tachometer - reaches 2000rpm, then no more!?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Hope you all had a great day yesterday re Drive It Day! Fab weather in the Midlands/North Wales areas.

Anyway, during my 270 mile run yesterday, my tacho decided to 'max out' at 2000rpm only, regardless of revs/speed.

Nothing to suggest anything different/other gauges all working re electrics etc......, so confused from Derby!!

Any thoughts / tacho 'guru's' out there with any advise etc?

Many thanks,

Chas

The inner cable is not broken or you might get no reading. It is most likely an inner cable problem, rather than the instrument itself.

Try Unscrewing the knurled knob from the back of the tach.

Pull out the inner cable with some pliers.

Wipe cable clean with a rag, then very lightly rub grease along its length.

Reinsert in sheathing, screw back into tach.

Test.

Actually, what I would do first, is to get the engine running, then reach up behind the tack and twist the cable-knob either direction and see if that give you an accurate reading.

Knurled knob could just be loose.

Hi Sapphire72 & RogerH,

Many thanks for getting back. It's mechanical RogerH. I'll try a 'twist & shake' test first and then see what happens and try inner cable lube after that.

Thanks again both. I'll keep you posted. Best for now, Chas
