Triumph Italia #234 – newly found, now for sale in US

Italia #234 verified via under hood Vignale tag

  • TR3 Chassis # TS/79516-LOO
    • Initial BMHT research shows this chassis shipped to Turin, Italy 09-29-60 to be completed as Triumph Italia
    • Engine number still to be verified
  • Car is substantially complete
    • Boot handle missing from photos is with car
    • Grille surround in boot
    • Grille insert missing but available
    • Rear Italia badge, Vignale emblems and side spear trim missing but available
    • Other important bits appear to be there
  • Front windscreen cracked; replacements are available
    • Window rubbers dried but replacements available
  • Shows signs of modifications from earlier refurbishment:
    • Incorrect headlamp rings, front marker lights, wiper arms
    • Seats recovered in seat pattern (velour)
    • Radiator neck shortened), wrong wiper arms.
    • No obvious signs of prior accident damage
  • Rust stats is unknown, although magnet said to hold over panels
  • Prior repaint in red at unknown date(s)
    • Original color uncertain
  • Car idle since 1984 after thrown rod
    • Engine block has been holed; likely route is replacement
  • Valid US title
  • Located near Atlanta, GA
  • On offer at $60,000 (US)

Probably on condition you have the car rebuilt by themselves for a preagreed figure, gives them a profit and guaranteed workshop hours which keeps the workshop viable ?

Have they sold the Dark blue rebuild with cream upholstery and TR4 chassis and steering yet ? I rather think they wished they'd taken the $100k it reached but not their reserve now.

Doesnt appear on their inventory list so maybe they have sold it. The wrong chassis is what crabbed the sale of it. They dont do their own panel work as it goes out to another shop nearby so maybe they are after the build.
