NealandPam Posted April 3, 2017 Report Share Posted April 3, 2017 I had the car electrics checked out by a specialty electrics firm last year & all appeared well with new fuse relays to cater for the cooling fan & fuel pump. As I haven’t driven the car at night I never checked the main beams. Anyway, prior to this years MOT I just checked all the lights & found the main beab doesn’t function. The lights indicating operation on the dash instrumentation are all satis. I’ve checked the beam selector switch & all the fuses. The lights are the original Lucas version & having dismantled them it appears that the filaments are all in place. Can anyone recommend any other potential faults before I take the vehicle back to the original electrics specialist? Rgds Neal Quote Link to post Share on other sites
RogerH Posted April 3, 2017 Report Share Posted April 3, 2017 (edited) Hi Neal, first thing have you got a wiring diagram? http://www.advanceautowire.com/tr2506.pdf Have you got a mulitmeter (or a DMM)? Are you happy playing with electrics? Find a Blue/white wire near a head lamp with them switched on can you detect 12V. If yes then check the earth (Black) wires to ensure they are actually earthed. If no then back down the loom to the dip switch - has it got 12V coming out - has it got 12V going in. As the dip beam works then you should have 12V going in. Waldi Posted April 3, 2017 Report Share Posted April 3, 2017 Neal, you must have voltage up to the (foot operated) main/dip switch, otherwise the dip would not work. I would check this first, measure the outgoing terminals in both positions. Mine was faulty, I opened and cleaned it. Best to test the resistance (ohms) in both positions between feed and outgoing terminal. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
carld Posted April 3, 2017 Report Share Posted April 3, 2017 Do 6's have the foot switch? If so and you have side lights, I am guessing that one of the wires has detached it self from the switch. aardvark Posted April 3, 2017 Report Share Posted April 3, 2017 If the side lights are on but no headlights then my money is on the wire connecting the foot switch high beam.
