Mark69
I would like to use my original fuse holder. What's the best way to clean the internal contacts. Thinking along the lines of a dip rather than scrapping. Mark
MikeF
Hmm. Theoretically you should first do a degreasing clean using a strong detergent, rinse, then a mild acid dip to brighten the metal, then rinse and dry. Practically it would be hard to find an off the shelf (in small quantity) acid that isn't too strong eg hydrochloric or too weak eg vinegar. (acetic ) For degreasing you could use engine cleaner or clothes washing liquid. For the acid rinse some plumbing grade liquid soldering flux would be OK, or possibly a descaling liquid/kettle defurrer. Rinse well in warm water and then a final rinse 50/50 meths/water (or surgical spirit with water) which will penetrate into all nooks and crannies and dry more readily than plain water Personally I would just use some fine wet and dry paper. Much less messy and quicker. Mike

graeme
Mark, As an alternative to the above methods, use a fibreglass pen. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIBREGLASS-CARBON-FIBRE-ABRASIVE-CIRCUIT-BOARD-CLEANING-PEN-PENCIL-10-REFILLS-/371901654003?hash=item569710e3f3:m:mZyEwARY4AqIGRr5IZPPkaw Cheers Graeme
jean
I use since many years a product from Bison International. It's called Griffon Contact Spray. A fantastic product for cleaning electric contacts. I' m used to spray it regularly into all the electric connectors of my cars.
