markymar93
Hi. We are rebuilding a 1963 tr3 rhd. As it is a late tr3 is there differences i should know? Thanks mark
Don H.
1963 would be seriously late -- like the year after the last-of-the-last TR3Bs were made. What's the commission number? That'll give some guidance. Although note these late cars don't really have any rules about what's right. It might be exactly like a TR3A, or it might have a few TR4 bits sneaking in. Alec Pringle
A 1963 build TR3, whether A or B, seems singularly unlikely. Even for a late-registered car it's inordinately late . . . . DVLA error perhaps ? Time to seek a Heritage ticket, and one of Bill's too methinks ! Cheers Alec
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Was the car owned and registered by Standard Triumph prior to its sale date in 1963? Peter W
Don H.
Bill's data source doesn't include TR3Bs (if it's a TSF- or TCF-series car). Ya gotta go through BMIHT.
TR 2100
Mark, Assuming it is an original RHD, then it's not a TR3B - they were all LHD. Your car was probably manufactured late in 1960, just maybe very early 1962 but there were considerable stockpiles and I would not be all that surprised if a few weren't sold until early 1963. Can't think of any differences after the re-tooling of the bodywork after TS 60,001 and even that wouldn't be a problem. Mechanically, no late changes. As has been suggested above, you should get a copy of the original build record from BMIHT or, if you are a Register member, Bill Piggott (details included in the Newsletter). stuart
Depends on where the car came from, if registered first in the US then it would tend to be registered as a 63 despite it being a 62 or if its an import then DVLA may well have registered it erroneously. Lebro
Do you have the commission number ? or any numbers from engine, gearbox & chassis (front cross member on top) That would identify the model, & probable year of manufacture Bob,.
Fireman049
Hi Marky ~ Here's a photo showing the location of the 'Z' plate fitted on top of the chassis front crossmember. If you PM me your email address I'll send you a complete list of 'Z' numbers which will help you find out the year of your car's manufacture. Tom.
markymar93
Mike ellis has given some information on the car. The car was built in 1961 but registered in late 1962. For some reason the v5 says 1963.

foster461
Especially if they're poofty blue, right Menno and Stan? Pooftah Blue, the new Russet Brown. Hmm, that doesnt sound quite right..
Don H.
We should probably do a poll on sidescreen colors. Powder Blue would probably be pretty high in the rankings.
Guest
'Pooftah Blue', a colour especially mixed for the US market. And they were right: acres of powder blue cars were shipped to the US, not only TRs - And don't mention that it was a Californian thing... I wouldn't continue commenting this colour, Don...
