Fitting new sun visor

Recommended Posts

Hi folks

Quick question about replacing the sun visors on my TR6 - are they just a push fit? (i.e. just locate the steel tube inside the foam and push home the inner and outer bars ?) Any other tips?

cheers

Hi Tim -

I recently replaced mine. They are just a push fit. The hard part was getting the bars out of the old ones. They are splinned and mine had rusted in there. Pretty much destroyed the old visors getting the bars out. Careful not to damage the bars - pulling at them with pliers or molegrips will get them out but rough them up pretty well too.

The new visors will have metric tubes inside.

the bars, if original, will be imperial

As a result, the visor can 'droop'

A tip I got from the guys at TRGB was to put a gentle curve in the long rod

Increase the curve until the visor moves the way you want it too

Good luck

Sounds like a good tip. For what it's worth, I got mine from Rimmer and found them to be a good snug fit with no droop. I'm pretty certain my bars are original.

I recently purchased a set from the TR Shop, Very loose in the internal folded tube so wont stay up! Very unsatisfactory. Tried putting extra paint on the rod but still no better. I will try putting a slight curve in the rod, sounds like it may work. Good tip

Cheers
