Remington TR / TR Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championship

Recommended Posts

I currently race an Alfa 156 in the Alfa Romeo Championship, so hold a National A Licence, and am thinking of entering the Sprint and Hillclimb Championship with my TR6 this year.

Where can I get details of entry, and of class regs?

My car is currently a standard 150bhp fuel injected car. I would like to understand what classes I could run in and what modifications I would need to carry out?

Hi yellowperil

I have been trying to get my TR3a sprint hill climb compliant.

The guys on here are very helpful and they pointed me to here initially.

Good starting point.

I haven't seen anything for 2017 so presume it's still current.

Best of luck

Yellowperil and Hamish,

We'd love to see you both out this year, I promise you will be made to feel most welcome. Make contact with Roger (rcmcewen@btinternet.com)and he'll ensure you get all the paperwork and details as soon as he has confirmation from the MSA.

To find last years details (this year shouldn't be very different) go to the homepage select the news tab, then motorsport news and you'll arrive at

http://www.tr-register.co.uk/motorsport-downloads

from here select the regulations document (http://www.tr-register.co.uk/uploads/2015/12/18/TRR-Hillclimb-2016-Regulations.pdf) and there you'll see the classes

3.2. Classes:

Class 1 Roadgoing Production Cars (S11) ROADSPORT 1A. Less than 90 BHP / Tonne 1B. 90 – 110 BHP / Tonne
 1C. 111 – 130 BHP / Tonne 1D. Greater than 130 BHP / Tonne

Class 2 Roadgoing Production Cars (S11) TUNED ROADGOING 2A. Less than 130 BHP / Tonne
 2B. 130 – 180 BHP / Tonne 2C. 181 - 230 BHP / Tonne
 2D. Greater than 230 BHP / Tonne

Class 3 Modified Production Cars (S12) MODIFIED 3A. Less than 200 BHP / Tonne 3B. 201 – 280 BHP / Tonne 3C. Greater than 280 BHP / Tonne

Where the power is at the Flywheel, which can be calculated from the power at the wheels plus 15% plus 10HP, and the weight is Kerb Weight which is the weight of the car including a full tank of fuel but without passengers. It will not be mandatory to produce documentation certifying power or weight, however submissions that appear incorrect will be investigated.

Thanks Kev for your response. The 2017 Regs have a different specification for weight, which is now the weight of the car ready for competition less the driver,(slightly less the Kerb Weight!).

Yellowperil, If you e-mail me at rcmcewen@btinternet.com I will add your address to my database so that you will receive the 2017 data as soon as it is published.

At the present time the MSA have not approved our 2017 Championship and we are therefore not able to publish anything until they do.

Roger

Will this weight change criteria which you say it makes the car less than kerb weight affect many cars and their competition categories?

As Kevin points out above the power /weight categories were based on fly wheel bhp and kerb weight (per1000kg)

Is it still bhp fly wheel and the new lesser weight ratio ? (Lighter weight - increases the power as a ratio won't it ?)

Would you know what a typical competition weight of a road car is ?

Roll bars are optional but must be heavy ??

I presume that people do their runs without spare wheel and tools etc

How much fuel is estimated ?

Sorry for the daft questions and all a bit academic for me - mr slow in a car that's probably a heavy standard.

But I'm in the middle of trying to get the car up to scrutineering standard (oil catch tank, yellow battery lead, 4 point harness, firewall etc) and just ordered a roll bar (for my safety not the regs) just so I can have a go.

Just getting sorted so I can have a go in the championship but one last thing to do is buy some tyres. I am Road-going pre 1977 and Class H, but I want to make sure I am not spending that sort of money on something not acceptable.

L. TYRES – For 2016 there has been a fundamental change to the MSA tyre regulations due to EU imposed manufacturing safety standards.

There is now a List 1C that contains tyres that are not allowable on cars competing in road going classes, although they are still sold as road tyres!
However pre - 1977 (period defined vehicles ( non-rally) classes A-H) roadgoing cars may use any road legal tyre. (S.11.6.2)

Yokohama A048 have been recommended so looking through the blue book some A048 are listed as YOKOHAMA • A048 – LTS (OE fitments marked LTS in sizes 195/50x16 & 225/45x17 only) 1B or YOKOHAMA •A048• A048® in List 1C

I presume I can use any A048? is anyone using A048's in the championship and are they good?

Hi damson6

They are some serious tyres ?!?!!

Demon tweaks say this so may be get "E" marked track tyres while you can

"*NOTE Some sizes of A048 tyre are not E marked for road use. Those that are E marked are available in limited supply and once stocks are depleted they will be replaced with non E marked versions.

The A048R has been developed using Yokohama's proven race tyre technology for drivers who participate in events such as track days, circuit racing, track or race schools, autocross competitions, club racing and much more! The A048R has been the original equipment tyre on the Lotus Elise Sport as well as being the control tyre for the Australian V8 Utes Racing Series."

Hi Derek,

Many competitors use A048 in roadgoing class, but in our Championship you would be on Class 2 as A048 were listed as 1B. The specific A048 tyres now listed in 1B are standard fitment on Lotus Elise and are therefore being designated compliant road tyres by Yoko. As A048 generally can't comply with modern Euro legislation they are designated as "For Racing" and hence been listed as 1C by the MSA. As long as the tyres are road legal and have the E mark they can be used in our Championship.

You might get some better feedback of experience if you post the question on our Facebook page TR Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championship.

Regards

Roger

Thanks for the info and feedback, I will be in class 2A as I will be travelling a fair way to most events so car will be trailered, also the car is flipping uncomfortable to travel in, so far I have managed 40miles in a day max!

And due to the distances I will travel up the day before and stop locally overnight which also means the car will be on a trailer, lots of luggage space required for the mechanic!.

I will see if I can get some E marked A048's then if they are popular with the competitors.

Is Facebook needed for the championship?

Derek,

I've just been looking at Avon CR6ZZ Road / Race tyres. They look very good on Vintage Tyres website in various sizes and two compounds.

Facebook is not an essential part of the Championship but has been used as a fairly informal place to discuss matters with a fair degree of banter!!

So after racking my brain wondering what tyres to buy I receive this from the MSA!

https://www.msauk.org/assets/speedevents-15april2015shcactionsheet-forconsultation.pdf

Has it happened? In my 2017 blue book it says we can still use 1B!

Proposed Regulation
Wheels and tyres
11.6.1. Deleted. 11.6.2.
Except for Period Defined Vehicles (Non-Rally) A - H inclusive tyres are to L List 1A and List 1B.
Reason:
Nationwide harmonisation and cost for what is seen as the entry Category
Implementation: 1st January 2017

Thanks Alec

Yes the 2017 book is clear as to the regs but why still have this on their website why not rescind or cancel it?

It makes me wonder whether a change is still on the cards, I will email them to ask why they don't clear it as it states an implementation date as January 2017??

Consultation and ratification
The Motor Sports Council must consider all new regulations proposed by the Specialist Committees. The regulations are first published on the MSA website so that comments may be received before they are presented to the Motor Sports Council for approval, incorporating any modifications that result from the consultation process (which may have included review by another Specialist Committee or Advisory Panel).

Approved rule changes will be published here and will be incorporated into the next edition of the relevant MSA Yearbook(s)

Consultation Archive

The Action Sheets below detail MSA Regulation changes that were proposed by the Specialist Committees. They were published to allow for periods of consultation, which have now ended.

I have tried to forget what it was like at work trawling through and querying changes, I need to get the brain back into gear!

So alright for 2017
