Superaquarama
Were all carpets black when the TR4As were new ? If not, presumably a Royal Blue car would have had blue carpets? Thanks, Anthony
stuart
No carpet colours usually matched interior colours unless special ordered otherwise. Stuart.
TR 2100
Stuart - TR4s started with charcoal grey carpet, irrespective of trim colour. Did this change for late 4s, or with 4As? AlanR
stuart
I know thats the case for 4a`s but Im not sure for late 4`s as they very rarely ever turn up with original carpets! Stuart.
Superaquarama
Thanks, Stuart and Alan. Reason I asked is that a brand new set of black carpets came with my project, but maybe I'll put them on eBay and get a set of blue instead; frankly I think they'll look better. Anyone know what shade of blue would have gone with a Royal Blue car ? As Stuart says, probably few originals left now.
TR 2100
Anthony, I am not a fan of black trim or black carpet - but that's only my preference. My white TR4s have red and blue trim and look far better than the black trim I had in my three signal red sidescreen cars. So - Stuart hasn't seen original carpet in a TR4A and in Bill Piggott's book (p 40), he shows a 4A with nice blue seats and dark blue loop pile carpet, with the comment that the "style of carpet appears to be correct". I think you pays your money and you takes your choice. AlanR

Anthony a Royal Blue car would have probably been originally trimmed with Black or Blue or Biscuit I would have thought. The trim colour code would be stamped on the chassis plate. Stuart. Alec Pringle
The 2/3 and 4A parts books list the available carpet colours in the body and trim sections, as do the various saloon parts books. In contrast the TR4 parts book refers only to carpet and to mat (rubber), no colour options are detailed, simply carpet and mat . . . . . just as the Standard commercial vehicle books list simply mats (rubber). My book has accumulative amendment no 11 dated July 1965, which contains no reference to carpet variation either. That suggests to me that any TR4s supplied as OE with coloured carpet must have been very late production indeed . . . . . Cheers Alec
Superaquarama
Thanks again, all. Are you referring to the 'Original' book, Alan ? Mine's not to hand at present as I've lent it to the guy painting the car, for reference purposes. So if the car in Bill's book is a late 4A, then that's not inconsistent. I'm doing a colour change from BRG to R/Blue, so the chassis plate's no help, Stuart ! Mine's a very early 4A but I think therefore that I'll just go for blue carpet - anyone's guess, as you say, Alan. Anthony
Alec Pringle
Hi Anthony, TR4A floorcoverings were simple enough - carpet in a choice of black, red or midnight blue. Rubber front mats (black) to special order. A blue paint car would normally have blue carpet, except to special order. Cheers Alec
Superaquarama
Thanks for that, Alec.
