Yorkie
Hi It was a lovely day today so I went for a spin, but the fun stopped when a women pulled out of a pub carpark and drove straight into the side of the car. See attached photos. I live in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The insurance company has asked me to get quotes from repairers who I would trust with the car. I am a bit stuck to think of someone, apart from browsing the web. Do you have any recomendations for repairers? Are there any technical things I should make sure happen to get the car back in tip-top order? Thanks Al
Peter Cobbold
Al, Bad luck - was she drunk? I would replace the trailing arm and maybe hub, as well as the more obvious body work damage. Unless you are certain the tyre was not hit hard. And check the t/a chassis area too. I can't see wheel damage so maybe its OK, but I had a taxi hit the wheel side-on (killing the t/a) and a t/a bracket failed on the opposite side a couple of years later. Nick Jones
Ouch....... legally blind presumably, it's only red! Your could try Moordale Motors http://www.moordalemotors.co.uk/ Dale is the editor of the Club Triumph and a definitely an enthusiast Picton Sportscars http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/temp/picton/advert_final.pdf I know people who've had good work done by Dave as well. Cew
I would heartily recommend Clive Manvers at Elmswell in Suffolk. He has done a couple of bodywork damage jobs for me , the bootlid and rear off side wing when my garage fell on it and the front valance and bumper and associated bits when I took a foray off road through a hedge. My insurers were quite happy with his quotes and specialist knowledge of the cars. He will collect as well.
Peter Cobbold
Red paint is the most prone to fading - if the paint has seen a lot of sun then colour will no longer be to spec.
Rob Salisbury
Ouch!!, you must be gutted, Enginuity in Acton did a brilliant job rebuilding and re-skinning my 4A door when it was damaged in gale force winds a little while ago, they dealt directly with the insurance co. I just had the relatively small excess to pay and the job was completed in a couple of days. Cheers Rob
Andrew Smith
......................................Do you have any recomendations for repairers? Are there any technical things I should make sure happen to get the car back in tip-top order? Al, Bummer, sorry to see this. Stick with a reputable TR rebuilder (e.g. Manvers, Enginuity etc) and don't be fobbed off by the insurance company if they recommend a repair company you do not know or unknown to the wider TR community. As for insurance, I would check very carefully what your policy covers e.g. agreed value, reinstatement etc. Who are you with and do you have both these options? If not you may find your pride and joy is in the hands (and mercy) of the insurance company and 'market value' will prevail and, not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, sadly we all know what that means. iain
Ouch, that hurts. Best of luck finding a good repairer.
JohnG
+1 for Clive Manners, but, anyone who has specialised in TR's for a reasonable time should be reliable
dpb
I had Rees in Aldershot do mine when something similar happened to my 4A. Good job done. Dave ===
Alec Pringle
That is not a small impact, and shock is likely to have travelled considerably farther than just the door, B-post and rear wing. For starters, gut the boot and the interior, such that an engineer can inspect properly and assess just how far the shock has travelled, and what that implies in terms of damage repair. I'd be looking very carefully at the floor as well as the sill, rear of the cockpit, tank mountings, trailing arm mountings, trailing arms themselves as well as the n/s/r wheel and tyre. Check for any impacted wiring, and integrity of hoses/pipes that might have been knocked loose underneath. As for ageing red paint, like as not you'll finish up with an all over repaint if you don't want mismatched panels 3 years down the line . . . . Cheers Alec
TR5tar
Very sorry to see this Al. Hope it doesn't take too long to get back on the road. Good luck. Cheers, Darren
snowric
Hiya, Sorry this has happened. Mark my area rep had his TR4 rear ended last year, new bootlid, boot floor rear valance and work was done by Enginuity and approved by insurers. Having seen before and after they did a super job. Yorkie
Thank you to everyone for the kind words and useful information. I had not fully realised how the impact could have spread. I will check the car out as soon as the weather improves and before the loss adjuster turns up so he sees the full scope of the crash. Also, today I am going to phone up the contacts you have kindly provided. All the best and thank you. Al

Yorkie
Peter, thanks, will do. I am going to get under the car as soon as it is dry. I don't have enough room at the moment to do that in my garage. The more I look at the car, the more damage I see. I cannot even get the door open at the moment! But thanks for your wise words. Swarf
I would put the car into a professional TR garage and let them advise/ inform the loss adjuster of the full effects of the impact. Highly recommend TR Enterprises in Blidworth, Notts.
openroad
Hi Al, you have had some great advice on here as usual. My question is.....what did she have to say for herself ?.... Out of a pub car park ?, was she breathalised.? I, like you and everyone else, would be totally gutted. Good luck , Conrad.
Yorkie
Hi Swarf - Thanks - I am going to look them up on the internet now.

Conrad, Looking at the photos I would bet she was a mum dropping her kids off/picking at/from school - probably still wearing her jim-jams............. Yorkie
Hi Conrad, It was 3.30pm outside a junior school. Some of the mums park in the pub carpark close by. I was driving slowly through a village since the road was busy with mums in large cars, young children crossing the road etc. For some reason, she claimed she did not see me and not only hit me directly in the side but also shunted me across the road. I was sure she had not been drinking, she had 3 kids in the back of her car. She just kept saying sorry and she did not see me. She was on the verge of crying. I just do not understand it! It was a nice clear sunny day. Al
Alec Pringle
"not only hit me directly in the side but also shunted me across the road" In which case you're going to have to look very carefully indeed at the steering and suspension all the way round, not just the n/s/r ! Cheers Alec
