RogerH
Hi Neil, the two chaps from S&M did a good job. The front carb was way too rich and the butterflies were not balanced. After their efforts, it started, drove and stopped very well. I wish they were a little closer to London. Roger

stillp
Thanks, was this tune-up at Lincoln? Pete
RogerH
Hi Pete, yes. It took just 30mins. They checked the timing, mixture, butterfly balance, plugs, tappet clearance. Didn't cost much but worth every penny. Nice guy's Prior to the adjustments I had trouble starting at both hot and cold. When cold with choke the front rich carb was over fueling and didn't work So the car would splutter into life. When cold with no choke the rear carbs wouldn't deliver enough. And the opposite when hot. It would eventually catch but run quite badly. After the adjustment it worked as it should do. Roger Edited August 6, 2016 by RogerH

peejay4A
At 30 minutes it all sounds a bit basic and something you could have done easily with your skills Roger. Or have I oversimplified?
RogerH
Hi Pete, indeed, simple stuff but done in a logical way. They didn't fiddle here then twiddle there. They did the correct thing in the correct order. Yes I could have done it if I had my thinking head on; but I've had so many things to do thinking is a problem. In 2010 I spent over £300 for well known bunch to do the above. When I got it home I had to undo what they did because it was rubbish. Roger
RogerH
Hi Folks, life is getting interesting again. When I put the engine together earlier this year I always had the objective to remove it after a fair few thousand miles and see how the crank and things are getting on. During the ensuing months I had a problem with the clutch becoming 'sticky' or ratchet clutch. I thought I had sorted it but annoyingly it appears to be returning. After apprx 2 months driving the problem returns - this has now happened twice. So when the engine comes out I shall investigate what is going on. I know that the tube that the bearing carrier slides on is not perfectly concentric with the GB input shaft. This will be investigated also. It has done 8000+ miles since early May so it should be interesting to see what has happened - if anything. Roger
Kevo_6
Oh Roger, I feel your pain. What have we done?
RogerH
Hi Kev, the engine removal is planned. The clutch will be sorted at the same time. I'm considering a co-axial release bearing. I know the problem IS the bearing carrier. And I'm sure the 0.015" misalignment between the input shaft and carrier tube is the cause. Kevo_6
Hi Roger Gearbox's and the clutch, I'm convinced is the devils work.
