bees3113
Hello I would like to know is it possible to fit an overdrive to a standard 4 speed gearbox. The gearbox is on my 1976 north american model TR6 Many Thanks. Graham Buckley
stuart
You can, you would need the different mainshaft and the adaptor plate. Stuart.
TriumphV8
Depends on what you have and what you want that there might be some more parts needed. I did the swap on an old TR6 gearbox and a J-Type overdrive. I took this from a Volvo gearbox because they can be obtained quite cheap and in best condition in Germany. Unfortunately the do not have the connection to the speedo cable and the propshaft flange is different. This required also some attention on the bearing between mainshaft and input shaft. The old gearbox has the closed bearing and fits to the A-Type mainshaft. The new gearbox has the open bearing that fits to the J-Type mainshaft. Original overdrives from TRs are expensive here and often worn out ready for refurbish.
