TR6 BUNCH OF BANANAS EXHAUST MANIFOLD TT1230S

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have an old standard Triumph TR6 PI 150 BHP CP series.

Some years ago the previous owner has fitted the car with this exhaust manifold in stainless steel (bunch of bananas) connected with the standard mild steel intermediate double pipes.

Now the rear silencer and intermediate pipes are rotting away so my plan is to save only the exhaust manifold and fit it with the Y piece, single big bore intermediate pipe and single exit silencer.

I have made a lot of research on internet and from my opinion the manifold is a classic Triumph Tune bunch of bananas exhaust manifold part number TT1230S possibly sold by Moss.

Some days ago i have tried to contact Moss by the form on the website but it seem that they are not interest to reply to the messages so where i can found the parts that i need (Y piece part number TH6003X, intermediate pipes and silencer TT5241S and fitting kit TT5201FK)??

I have seen that Racetoration has for sale a similar exhaust system: http://www.racetorationsuk.co.uk/page19.html

It will be compatible with my manifold?

About the performance of this exhaust system (bunch of bananas + big bore silencer) do you have any experience or advice??

I will loss torque in the midrange rpm??

Thanks for the help!!

In attachment a pic of the exhaust manifold that i have found in the forum:

You might have a chat with Darryl at Racetorations, he's very friendly and knowledgeable.

Why don't you build your own?

It is quickly done with with a TIG welder

and much cheaper than buying the stuff.

Built last week such a 2in1 for a friend who

has a single bore to the rear.

Tubes can be bought per metre where one side has already the wider diametre

to fit into that tube.

The fun starts here:

.. and the trick to fit perfect to the rear ist this item:

http://www.sandtler24.de/auspuff-flexrohre

It avoids the exhaust being under tension if tube angles do not fit that perfect

like most of the steainless exlhausts for our TR6 have problems there anyway.

All in all it takes me1,5h to make such a 2in1 connector and a whole day

to bring that under the car, mainly because the full rear exhaust has to be stripped.

Next time this will be easier due to stainless and because I only use the powersprint

clamps that presses the tube together without making marks on the tubes that

prevent them from leaving each other later.

Whole exhaust can now be stripped for getting access to rear axle or overdrive

within 10 minutes and no trouble.....

It is worth to spend that extra work once and benefit over years!

I'm fairly sure that this is what I had fitted to my 1971 TR6 in around 1986. It is all mild steel and I recall having it fitted at the Triumph specialists near Liverpool and it having a modification by denting one of the bananas so that the throttle linkage would clear. It only had slip joints on the 3:2:1 parts so not completely gas tight and the large bore exhaust was straight through. It did go well and sound good but I took it off the car around 1992 when I laid it up. I've still got it, but see you are not that local!

I'm not sure how to proceed in helping you, so any suggestions welcome.

Regards

Bill
