Flying_Demon
Hi, Yes it was Glass Car Check Book 1967-1976 supplied by one of the folks on here. The letter received states "An extract from the Glass's check book. This is a comprehensive guide to production dates and includes chassis numbers, which most vehicle owner/specialist clubs may have access to. The extract should be supported by a covering letter from the relevant owner/enthusiast club". I've since called DVLA to clarify and stated that it was surely just a case for them to confirm the chassis number in Glass Car Check Book from 1st January, 1975 was higher than the chassis number for my car as recorded on the V5 and what more could be stated in a letter? After some off-line consultation they agreed to forward the documents on to their technical team to validate but I do not need to send any further evidence and so the wait goes on ... Topoff
Why not ask heritage for the 2 nearest (before and after) commission number certificates? This will give you a clue and hopefully proof of the dates you car was built between. Laurence.
Flying_Demon
Hi, So a final happy update from me on this, the DVLA Technical Team validated my request for my TR6 to be classified as a historic vehicle without the need to provide any further evidence or information and I received an updated V5 a few weeks ago. Interestingly, I also received a refund cheque for £230 for the current years tax, I was only expecting a refund for the period since I made my original application but am not complaining :-) Thanks to everyone on here who helped, especially Derek who kindly provided the Glass's Check Book extract for my car. John Bracher
This does seem to be a process implemented by 'the authorities', without the forethought to educate/inform their own 'Minions' as part of the process! When my Tax was due in April, (SORNed since previous October) I went to my local Post Office to 'get the tax'. I duly handed over the reminder, asking/suggesting to the man that as the car was now 'historic' he needed no payment, just a change in Taxation class?? He looked at my V5, said "OK", scribbled something on the paperwork, typed something into his computer, and gave me back the completed paperwork. I (thinking monies should have been handed over to DVLA for change in Tax class), scooted out with my 'no tax disc' in my hand! 2 weeks later, my new V5 arrived with 'Historic' as the taxation class!! Did I have a 'victory' over 'them' somehow??
