Guest ntc
£1,300 for a day nice work when you can get it. http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/50868-tr-register-technical-seminar-6-cylinder-engines-book-now/&do=findComment&comment=414202
RogerH
Hi Neil, these seminars are a response to members requests. If they were not put on people would say nothing is happening. Others are planned though the year. The cost, I believe, is based on the use of garage /workshop facilities and one or more engineers giving the tuition throughout the day. Peter Cobbold
Seen from a particpant's perspective, £50 inc.lunch is good value for a day's tuition. £7per hour. Schedule does look a bit thin on the PI though. Peter
Don H.
Seems a reasonable thing for the club to offer, IMO. And something like this takes preparation, so it's not all in a day's work.
pfenlon
We shouldn't be getting into bed with any TR supplier. It puts an undeserved poor reflection on other TR firms.

Exactly Well said that man,so what about the others who do this foc at our IWE ? Doesn't seem to put anyone else in a bad light IMO, but would certainly NOT seem to put anyone who does it for free at an IWE in a bad light most of all. Let's make it a big bed and let anyone in. There will come a time when knowledge is rarer than the cars. Spread it around, however possible!
RogerH
oops! Hi Pete, not too sure of the future programmes but PI could take up a whole day on its own and may be the subject of a seminar. Roger Edited February 23, 2015 by RogerH

Roger Roger, Yes, a day to itself. Or perhaps the TRR could be the first ever car club to offer a MOOC ? Peter
Tom Boyd
And you think the money goes where????? Have you ever thought how much time and effort goes into organising something like this?? If your not interested in going then why the post? If anyone is wondering why this specialist was chosen why not ask the register?? Can you tell it annoys me when I read posts like this?!!! Tom
Guest ntc
I can Tom,but we all know who you work for.
Tom Boyd
And??? What's your point?? The register asked, it was agreed for the good of the club...... Don't see an issue!

Don H.
... perhaps the TRR could be the first ever car club to offer a MOOC ? +1! This is a terrific idea.
Guest ntc
It is in the topic title. If our club feels this is the way forward then good luck to them, wrong turn imho
Tom Boyd
But it's not the 1st time this has happened.... Seminars have happened over the years at various specialists.
Tr4Tony
Hi all If we carry on like this NO ONE will want to do anything for the club. We could end up like many other marques where restorers and indeed suppliers take the view that it's their business, their best practice and their knowledge so why give it away for the price of an hours labour ? We are fortunate that we are not in that territory, for now. Hats off to Steve Hall for opening his doors for the DIY TR owners who will doubtlessly benefit from this seminar and the knowledge gained. It's probably not to his advantage but once again a real supporter of the club has stepped up when he was asked. If anyone else wants to give their time, premises or knowledge or has further ideas on how to help members do more with their Cars, please send into the office so that the committee can continue to do more for our members. Alternatively, please call me to discuss. Regards Tony

Don H.
Maybe a mod can move this to member's chat so we can take the gloves off and continue the discussion?
Peter Cobbold
Tony Happy to give talk about blowers. But I'm not sure how to pay the audience. Peter Edited February 23, 2015 by Peter Cobbold
Tr4Tony
Peter Let's discuss - I'm sure that would be interesting and given that you can now buy a reasonable kit of bits, something that others might like to have at go at ? Regards Tony
Peter Cobbold
+1! This is a terrific idea. Don, I wonder if it might be feasible? http://openmooc.org/ They say its a 'simple course creation interface', but maybe that means simple in their terms... Jersey Royal
I am quite sure that the majority of the TR suppliers that we use would do likewise, get paid for your time, free advertisement ,, plenty of good will. Members learn something. I just hope others have been or will be asked and it can be spread around different parts of the UK at various times. Unfortunately ex UK members will have problems and expense getting to these events. Be great if one was timed between Silverstone and Malvern. Cheers GUY

McMuttley
It is silly that this initiative should be criticised - what is to say the Register will not invite other specialists to host future events. Having given a number of professional seminars over the years, the amount of time put in preparing and presenting costs a fortune in terms of time lost not doing other stuff. Maybe selling DVD's of such events from the shop will increase Club revenue. The point about aiding the costs of those that present IWE seminars is however valid. I posted my list of desired 'TR for Dummies' sessions under last year's IWE debate.
